  • Colossus was developed.

    Colossus was developed.
    During World War II, the Colossus was developed. It was named that because of it's size. I think it was important for this computer to be made as it decoded German secret code. It also used Boolean logic operations.
  • Baby -Manchester Small-Scale Experimental Machine

    Baby -Manchester Small-Scale Experimental Machine
    The Baby, also known as the Manchester Small-Scale Experimental Machine, was deveopled in the 1940's. The computer wasn't too exciting but it did use the William Tube, a type of RAM. RAM is really important in computers as it's main memory and has an important job.
  • First Commercial Computer -IBM 650

    First Commercial Computer -IBM 650
    The first commercial computers became available in the 1950's. Up until then, computer were used for scientific, mathmatical and defense use. Now they could be used for banking, and other business uses. This computer, the IBM 650, would cost over 4 million dollars if bought today! I think this step was huge as it was a move toward getting computers into the homes.
  • Transistor Computer

    The transistor computer no longer used vacuum tubes. That was great as transistors use less space. In the beginning, the transisitors were less reliable., but they used less power. Transistors also lead to the first disk drives. That was a big leap forward as info could be stored and moved from one location to another.
  • The Microchip

    The Microchip
    The microchip allowed minicomputers and microcomputers to be developed. The microchips were small emough and inexpensive enough to allow purchasing for home and personal use. This made a huge leap toward small personal computers. Small personal computers have improved the lives of a lot of people. It's helped people who can't get outside have a connection to their family and friends.
  • Microprocessor

    Three microprocessors came out at about the same time. The Intel, the Texas Instruments, and Garret AiResearch. The first processors were only 4 bit, but 8 bit followed soon. In 1972 16 bit models were made and in 1980 32 bit came about. Now, in the 2000's, the 64 bit is being used. The more bits. the better the quality. That's huge in games, music and photographs.
  • Personal Computer

    In the 1970's the personal computer became popular. Three computers were the most popular, the Apple II, the Commodore PET, and the Tandy Corporation’s TRS-80. They had between 4kb and 48kb of RAM. The Apple was the only one with a color display and sold over 4 million units. A color display was a huge plus in computers. Being able to use it to create simple letters and drawings was very helpful to people and businesses.
  • VGA resolution

    In 1993 they had 256-color screens. Afterwards, resolutions and colors progressed quickly. From the 1990s to the early 2000s they added high capacity drives and optical drives. This is important because they had 256-color screens so displays were more detailed.
  • iPhone 4S

    iPhone's Siri is just amazing! You can use your voice to schedule meetings, place phone calls, send messeges, and many other things. Siri recognizes your voice and knows what you're asking. Ask her the weather in California. ask her to tell your wife you'll be home late, tell her to messege your best friend, it's easy to deicde why that's helpful, it makes your life easier.
  • iPad 3

    iPad 3
    In 2010 the iPad 3 came out. It has a screen resolution of 2048 x1536. It also has a 44% greater color saturation than the previous model. It has 3.1 million pixels which is four times as many pixels as in the iPad 2. I think it is important because it has a higher picture quality due to more pixels. Being a photographer, I think it is important because you can see your pictures in high resolution.
