    The very first computer 'bug" was found in 1945 by Grace Murray Hopper. The bug was a moth that was stuck in one of the relays and caused the computer to malfunction. This tells us where the word computer "bug" comes from.

    J. Lyons and company, from Britan, was looking for new office managing techniques and decided to make the first digital business computer. The computer was named LEO.

    The LEO I was fully operational in '51 and ran its first full regular office routine in the world! This was the very first operationaly business computer in the world.
  • Project Whrilwind At MIT

    The Whirlwind was the first digital computer to operate in real time and was the first computer at MIT. The Whirlwind was made my Jay Forrester and his team of men and women at MIT. This project began in 1945 and was first demonstrated in 1951. Being the first digital computer and it could opperate in real time was a very big thing, especially for a univerisity.
  • Sketchpad

    Ivan Sutherland invented Sketchpad. Sketchpad was a program that enabled users to create images right on the screen, using a handheld object like a pen, with out having to enter specific codes. This was important becuase we didn't have to enter any bionary codes anymore.

    The Amurateur Computer Society was formed in 1965 by Steve Grey. The ACS sent out news letters informing new computer users what was available, what was new and how to use them. This was to help new users and ended in '76. This new program backfired and then came back up again in New Jersey as ACGNJ.

    The Floppy Drive Disk (FDD) was invented by Alan Shugart in 1967. The drive was named floppy because the packageing was flxible plasitc. This is one of the first types of secondary storage to be invented. There is no actual information of a date of the creation of the floppy.

    The Floppy was introduced in '77 but didn't come about until '81 becuase it was unheard of. Until IBM used it. This shows that we trust things that big companies show us and its how secondary storage was introduced to public.

    Microsoft Windows was a new operating system introduced to the public. Windows was named Windows because the boxes you pull up on the copmuter look like "windows". This was so new that skeptics called it "vaporware" so it took a while to finally get out to the world. This shows how people wanted to keep computers nice because of how expensive they were.
