    This event in computer history is important becasue this is when big companies really started to buy computers. I included this event in my timeline because this is really when more and more people began using computers and they were more internationally recognized.

    Harvard Mark-I calculator Completed
    This was a milestone in computer technology because it was one of the first room-sized calculators. This was also one of the first calculators invented that people could use. This calculator was used to produce mathmatical equations, but was soon superseded by stored program computers. I included this event in my timeline because this was one of the first calculators that companies could use.
  • MIT builds TX-O computer

    MIT builds TX-O computer
    This is an important event in computer history because it was one of the first general, easy to program computers for big companies to use. Researchers at MIT designed this computer to prove that you could make just a general computer and it didn't have to have a corporate purpose. I included this event in my timeline because I think that the world needed to be shown that you could just make a general computer and to show the advances in technology they had made even since 1944.

    IBM announced system/360
    IBM announced in 1964 the system/360. This was made possible by combining six mutually compatible computers and 40 peripherals. This advancement in computers hit the market and took off. The average order of this product was 1000 orders per month. The $5 billion dollars that was invested into making this product definitely paid off. I chose to include this event because this shows that all companies, little and big, were finally being included in the computer revolution.

    In 1976, the founders of Apple created the Apple l which was just a normal computer. Most people at the time were looking at the bigger companies to buy their computers, and Apple wasn't the biggest company on the market. The computer does well enough that they were able to design The Apple ll later on. I chose to include this event in my timeline because this shows that even Apple started out with an old fashioned computer and turned it into a billion dollar company.

    In 1977 one of the first personal computers was invented, the PET otherwise known as the Personal Electronic Transactor. This device had a straightforwarad, easy way to operate, not one, but two built-in cassette drives, either 4 or 8 kilobytes of memory and a keyboard. I chose this event because now we are able to see all people, not just businesses, have computers and that is a breaktrhough in technology.

    In 1984 Apple's Macintosh computer was released. This was a easy to use, all-in-one desktop computer that used graphical user interface. This was a breakthrough for Apple, because of the commercial that released the computer. The Macintosh was a wildly successful computer and was well worth the investment. I chose to include this event in my timeline because this is when Apple really started to make themselves knwon as a computer company, and as a reputable company.
  • iMac released

    iMac released
    When the iMac was released in 1998, it became the fastest-selling PC in the world. As a reputable company, many consumers purchased the iMac in hopes of it being the best computer available at the time, and they were not let down. The iMac gained a famous reputation and so did Apple. I chose to include this event because of the success that this computer had. It was the fastest selling PC, and was out of stock in days. I also liked how Apple was able to work their way up the food chain.
  • iPad intorduced

    In 2010, the first iPad was released, this was a tablet that could do everything, it had games, movies, music, the internet, and it was all in one device. The reason this is such a big milestone is because of all it could do. I chose to include this milestone in my timeline because it was a breakthrough in handheld technology. No longer do you need to have a computer to surf the internet, you could do it on your iPad. I also like how fast the technology has evolved since 1939.
  • iPhone 5 introduced

    iPhone 5 introduced
    The last milestone I have chose to include in my timeline is the iPhone 5. This iPhone has it all, internet, games, music, videos, siri, even a camera. Most people who lived in the 1940's never thought that technology would advance this far. I chose to include this milestone in my timeline because it shows how through trial and error, you can make any piece of technology. This iPhone also shows the amazing evolution, of giant, room-sized computers, to small handheld devices.
