    The Russian Revolution took place in 1917 when the Russian ruler was removed for his terrible leadership and denying his people supplies and food. Vladimir Lenin played a big role in the revolution by sparking the fire that led to Russia revolting.

    The Truman Doctrine was introduced by president Truman in 1947 saying that he wanted to help support Europe in its growth process and that he wanted to prevent any other war from starting by sending aid to any country who was being threatened by the communist ideals.

    After World War 2 had finished, Germany had been broken into four sections to be controlled by four different countries to help rebuild it. Although, the Soviet Union wanted Germany crushed, so the leader ordered that the city of Berlin be closed off and left the city to die, but America came to the rescue and for over a year sent planes in and out of Berlin with supplies to sustain the people.

    After WW2 had ended, Britain and America were experiencing tension with the Soviet Union. The goal of Russia was not to help restore Germany, but rather to strip it bare. After the war, Germany was split into four different sections that were controlled by different countries and the Soviet Union took advantage of their small bit of control and attempted to destroy Germany by closing off the city of Berlin and preventing them from receiving any supplies and from anyone entering.

    NATO stands for North Atlantic Treaty Organization. It was an alliance formed that was meant to be protection against the Soviet Union and prevent their communist ideals from attempting to take over. Still to this day, many countries have joined and it is the longest lasting peace treaty to last.

    The Soviet Union had been working on recreating the atomic bomb that America had been successful in producing. The Soviet Bomb Test was when they Soviet Union did a test run on their completed atomic bomb and scared the US along with its allies.

    Joseph McCarthy was running for Senator and during this time he fed countless lies to the public suggesting that many different individuals were either communist spies or sympathizers.
  • Geneva Conference

    There were a lot of conflict between nations due to the Indochina war and the Korean war. The Geneva Conference took place in Geneva, Switzerland and was set up to help resolve many of those differences.
  • Warsaw Pact

    When NATO was established, the Soviet Union decided to follow suit in the creation of an alliance. The communist began the Warsaw Pact between the Soviet and forced seven other European countries into the alliance.

    The Hungarian people under the Soviet's control of communism began a revolt against the government they no longer wanted on October 23, 1956 that lasted till November 10, 1956 and ended in success.

    The Iron Curtain was a division line between the communists and the rest of Europe. Joseph Stalin (the leader of communist Russia) called this his buffer zone. It was a group of the smaller countries surrounding his country that he took by force and used it as military protection to prevent invasion.

These planes were used to take well needed photographs of ground area that the Soviets had kept hidden.     Richard Nixon was first the Vice President of the U.S. but won election for presidency on November 5, 1968.

    The Ohio National Guard shot at a group of protesters who were opposing the Vietnam war. Students were killed in the conflict and caused even more problems.

    Also known as "Star Wars" the SDI was the Strategic Defense Initiative. This was the verbalized plan to create space weapons that could shoot down coming missiles. Reagan produced this idea as a bluff that scared the Soviet Union into spending the money on the research as well.
