    In 1949, the United States, Canada, and ten other countries formed a new military alliance called the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. Members pledged to have eachothers back when it came to war. In the past these countries had bad experiances with protecting themselves.

    1950, United Nations troops landed on the beaches on the port of Inch'on. The troops captured Koreas north-south rail lines. North Korean forces in the south soon surrendered.

    Soviet Union falls was a reprocussion of the Cold War. This is because after the Cold War ended, Soviet Union`s economy was trashed. They tried repairing it, but failed by spending money on uneeded goods instead of looking for opinions from their citezens on what they should buy. Some Hungarians tried escaping from Soviet control which also created conflict.

    Chinese ruler named Mao Zedong built a Communist party in China. He created 2 programs called the Great Leap Foward and the Cultural Revolution which both failed. This cause the Civil War.

    Communist Cuba and Missile Crisis

    A man from Cuba named Fidel Castro rebelled against communism given out by Cuba`s ruler. Then current U.S president John F. Kennedy planned to invade Cuba, Castro`s forces captured the invaders. Kennedy demanded Cuba not to set off missels which they didnt.

    The Berlin wall was built to keep East berliners from crossing over into the west and vice-versa. The reason this was a problem was because if a citizen from the east wasn`t satisfied with their pay, they would jump the fence over to the west and explore their options there, and vice-versa. This made Berlin citizens furious.

    VietnamVietnam ruler wanted communism badly while the citizens of Vietnam disagreed. Vietnam gave small supplies towards the war. But when the U.S. got involved, Vietnam found themself spending uneccessary money towards the war.

    The Soviet Union and the U.S. slowly reached some agreements when it came to reducing the threat of nuclear war. This introduced the theory of "detente" which is a relaxation of tension.
  • Soviets in Afghanistan

    In 1979, the Soviet Union got involved in an extended war in Afghanistan. A Soviet-supported Afghan government tried to modernize the nation. The policies were social reforms and land redistribution that would reduce the power of reginal landlords.
