  • Northwest Ordinance

    It provided away for admitting new states into the union. Also it was one of the AoC successes. It was important because it contributed to Manifest Destiny.
  • Louisiana Purchase

    It was a purchase of land from France by Jefferson. It set a precedent for future purchases of land. It’s impossible to US History because it doubled the size of the US.
  • Missouri Compromise

    This compromise entered Maine into the Union as a free state and Missouri as a slave state. It kept the balance of power in Congress between free and slave states equal. It was later repealed by the Kansas-Nebraska Act.
  • Monroe Doctrine

    It was articulated by President Monroe. It stated that the US would not put up with European powers settling in the Western Hemisphere. It made the US the proclaimed protecter.
  • Nullification Crisis

    This was a conflict between the federal government and South Carolina. Calhoun opposed the tariff of 1828 and argued that the Constitution gave states the right to nullify federal law.
  • Texas Annexation

    Texas was admitted into the Union as the 28th state. The delay of annexing Texas came from the people wanting to keep the balance of power in Congress.
  • Oregon Treaty

    A treaty between Britain and the United States that settled border disputes also it established the 49th parallel. It’s important to US history because it furthered the believe of Manifest Destiny.
  • Mexican Cession

    The landed the U.S. acquired from winning the war. The terms were put together in the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. It was important because it helped fulfill Manifest Destiny.
  • Compromise of 1850

    This compromise was 5 separate bills in one to make the North and South happy but it made things worst. It increased sectionalism throughout the Union.
  • Kansas-Nebraska Act

    It allowed people in Kansas and Nebraska to decide for themselves if they wanted to have slaves or not. The act repealed the Missouri Compromise of 1820

    This was the result of the Kansas-Nebraska Act. Conflict arose because some people wanted slaves but others didn't.
  • Battle of Fort Sumter

    This was the first battle of the Civil War. It resulted in a Confederate victory which shocked the Union.
  • Battle of Bull Run

    This was the first major land battle of the Civil war which also ended in a Confederate victory. It was also known as the First Battle of Manassas.
  • Battle of Antietam

    This was known as the bloodiest day of the war which ended in a Union victory. This battle ended the Confederate's invasion of Maryland.
  • Emancipation Proclamation

    The proclamation declared "that all persons held as slaves" within the rebellious states "are, and henceforward shall be free. It allowed African Americans to participate in the war.

    Presidential Reconstruction

    This plan was initiated by Lincoln and carried out by Johnson after Lincoln died. Lincoln plan was the 10% plan which made 10% of the South make an oath to the union and agree to the terms of the Emancipation Proclamation.
  • Battle of Vicksburg

    In this battle the Union gained control of the Mississippi river and split the Confederate in two. So they were in control of an important route to move men and supplies.
  • Battle of Gettysburg

    This battle had the largest number of casualties of the entire war and was described as the war's turning point.
  • Gettysburg Address

    The main purpose of the Gettysburg Address was for Lincoln to point out his main goal which was to preserve the Union. He was also stating that the living can honor the ones who died during the battle by continuing their fight against the Confederate.
  • Sherman’s March to Sea

    Genera, Sherman led his men on a march from Atlanta to Savannah to frighten Georgia’s people into evacuating the Confederate cause. During this march they tore up railroads, pillaged farms, and burned out plantations.
  • 13th Amendment Passed

    This amendment was passed to free all slaves in the Union. Also stated that no slavery would be tolerated in the United States.

    Congressional Reconstruction

    This plan was directed by Radical Republicans who wanted to punish the South. They wanted a stricter plan to protect the rights if freed slaves and keep the Confederates from regaining power in the South.
  • 14th Amendment Passed

    This granted birthright citizenship to all former slaves.
  • 15th Amendment Passed

    This amendment was passed to give all African American men the right to vote. Women were still not allowed to vote during this time.
  • Plessy v. Ferguson

    It was a decision by the Supreme Court that legalized segregation. This decision became known as separate but equal.
