  • Treaty of Versailles

    Treaty of Versailles
The Treaty of Versailles was a peace treaty that was signed after World War One between Germany and the Allies. Some conditions in this treaty were: Germany was held responsible for the war, all of it`s colonies were taken away, it`s army was limited to 100,000 men, and Germany was forced to pay 33 billion dollars to cover the damages. After accomodating to the Allies` harsh conditions, the Germans became very poor and desparate. When Hitler came to power he got revenge for the Germans.

  • Stock Market Crash

    Stock Market Crash
The great depression impacted Germany alot. Since Germany was dependant upon foreign money (mostly loans from the United States), and was very dependent on foreign trade, the stock market crash destroyed their already weak economy. Germany became very poor and began looking for a solution. Hitler became their solution.
  • Anchluss

    Anchluss
The Anchluss was the re-occupation and annexation of Austria into Nazi-Germany. There were many supporters. 99.7% of Austria voted in favour of Anchluss. Germany was re-occupying an ex-colony, which was a direct violation of the Treaty of Versailles. Although the Allies were still committed to the treaty, they performed no militay action to stop the annexation for the sake of appeasement.
  • Munich Agreement

    Munich Agreement
The Munich Agreement permited the Nazi-German annexation of Czechoslovakia's Sudetenland in exchange for peace between the two countries. Germany would not be allowed to invade the rest of Czechoslovakia as long as this pact was in place.
  • Gemany Invades Czechoslovakia

    Gemany Invades Czechoslovakia
As a direct violation of the Munich Agreement, Hitler invaded Czechoslovakia. Despite Czechoslovakia`s calls for help, neither Britain nor France was prepared to take any military action against Hitler. However, both Britain and France said that they would take military action if he invaded Poland, the country they predicted would be the next target.
  • Nazi-Soviet Pact

    Nazi-Soviet Pact
This was a non-agression pact between Hitler and Stalin. Other countries were surprised that a communist, Hitler-hating Russia had made an alliance with nazi, Communist-hating Germany. The catch was that this treaty had a secret clause to divide up Poland when Germany took over. This was seen as a terrible act of political cynicism that convinced Britain of the need for a war.
