  • Dien Bien Phu

    Dien Bien Phu
    Vietminh forces surrounded Dien Bien Phu and began bombarding French, soon after the French forces fell to the Vietnimh.
  • Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka, Kansas

    Ruled that segregation in public schools was unconstitutional and violated the 14th amendment.
  • Meeting at Dexter Avenue Baptist Church

    This is where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. spoke out to people to continue their protest.
  • SCLC

    A civil rights organiztion that students started instead of joining NAACP.
  • Browder v. Gayle

    This court case ruled that Alabama's law requiring segregation on buses unconstitutional.
  • Woolworth Department store

    Four African American college students liked the idea of civil rights. So they bought school supplies and sat at the lunch bar, which was white only.
  • Freedom Riders

    In May the Freedom Riders began riding on white buses. Later on May 4, an angry white mob attacked them.
  • James Meredith denied entrance

    This is when James Meredith was trying to be the first African American to enroll at the University of Mississippi.
  • James Meredith Enrolled

    This is when James was enrolled as the first African American at the University of Mississippi.
  • Blocked from Enrolling

    George Wallace stood in front of University of Alabama's admission office and stopped two African Americans from enrolling.
  • Graduation

    James Meredith was the first African American to graduat at UofM.
  • Henry Cabot Lodge

    Henry defeated Diem's and he was soon executed.
  • Assassination

    President Kennedy was assassinated and Lyndon B. Johnson became president
  • Civil Rights Act of 1964

    President Johnson signed the Cicil Rights Act of 1964
  • Torpedos Away!

    President Johnson announced that North Vietnamese had fired torpedos fired upon two American destroyersin the Golf of Tonkin.
  • Gulf of Tonkin Resolution

    This gave permission to repel and take any measure against armed attacks against the U.S.
  • Nobel Peace Prize

    This is the date that Martin Luther King Jr. won the Nobel Peace Prize.
  • Voting Rights Act of 1965

    African Americans gained the right to vote.
  • MLK Assassination

    In Memphis outside of his hotel room MLK was sniped down.
  • U.S. troops out of Vietnam

    In 1973 the U.S. began to leave Vietnam because of the failure of trying to begin a deomcratic society. Another reason was because of not having any support back home.
