Causes of the American Revolution

  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
    This added 3 cents on foreign refined sugar and increased taxes on coffee, indigo, and certain kinds of wine. It banned importation of rum and French wines. These taxes affected only certian populations.

    The French and Indian War (1754-1763)
    Britain and France fought the French and Indian War to gain control of North America. The Treaty of Paris 1763 ended the war. France lost all of its colonies in North America and Britain also raised taxes on the American colonies. The colonist believed the tax laws violated the Magna Carta because they did not have a chance to vote on the laws.

    This was issued by King George III aquistion after the end of the French and Indian War. This settlers forbid settlers from starting towns etc afater a line drawn after the Appalachain Mountains.

    The Treaty of Paris ended the French and Indian War in the year 1763. France lost all its colonies and England and Spain gained land.

    Parliament argued that colonial currency had caused devaloution harmful to trade. They banned companies from making money. The colonist began to protest.
  • Britain Raises Taxes

    Britain was in debt from the war. They then began to charge the colonist tax on items such as Sugar and all paper printed items. They also introduced the Writs of assistance. The colinist began to rebel. These included the Sugar Act, Stamp Act, Declaratory Act, Townsend Acts, and Tea Act, Intolerable Acts.

    Bristish soliders killed 5 people and injured 6 in the town on Boston. the towns people began to rebel against the Bristish soliders by throwing snowballs etc. The soliders responded with violence and fighting.

    parliement passed the tea act which sparks the final revoultion in Boston. the reduced the production of tea not to raise taxes.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Colinist dressed up as Natives and seized 342 tubs of tea . then then took it to the harbor and dumped it. They were protesting the importing of tea in East India Company.
  • Intolerable Act

    Intolerable Act
    Passed as a punishment for dumping the tea in the harbor.
  • Battle of Lexington and Concord

    This was between the kingdom of Britain and its 13 colonies.The colonist did not want to fight but shots were fired. The colonist won and took over Britains land.
