    General Beauregard from the South fought fired against the Union's Fort Sumter with a Confederate win. This was important sinc eit began the start of the Civil War.

    First Battle of Bullrun
    The First Battle of Bullrun began on July 21, in the year 1861. It occured in Virginia in the city ot Manassas. The battle was with General Ivan McDowell for the Union and for the Confederacy, it was General PT Beauregard and Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson. Although, the Confederates won this beginning battle which showed the North that the war may be longer than they thought.

    Battle of Shiloh
    The Battle of Shiloh came almost a year after the 1st Battle of Bullrun. With all of this preperation, the Union won with the leadership of General Ulysses S. Grant and "Tecumpseh" Sherman. The loosing team, was led by by General Beauregard. This battle took place in Mississippi and the Union's success let them to gain control for part of the Mississippi River, Corinith, and Memphis, Tennessee. Although, this battle had many casualities with 13,000 for the North and 11,000 for the South.

    Fall of New Orleans
    This naval battle was fought in Louisiana near the Mississippi River with another Union success. Since this battle was on the water, the Union used their water specialist, Captain David Farragut. The North gained complete control of the Mississippi River so South wouldn't be able to recieve goods from sea or ship goods.

    Battle of Antietam
    The "Bloodies Day in American History" happened in the Battle of Antietam in Maryland. Although there were so many casualities, neither side had won. Although, the Union did prevent Southerner General Lee to bring the war into Northern land. Also, this battle caused the Emancipation Proclomation. The Union was led by General McClellan and the Confederacy was led by General Lee. The North had prevented the South from moving the war since McClellan had found the battle plans of Lee!
  • Battle of Fredericksburg

    Battle of Fredericksburg
    On a cold December day in Virginia, General Burnside and General Lee fought it out for only the Confederacy proved themselves correct. This was important for the South. They won! Lee did this by building trenches so they could fire up at the Union.
  • Battle of Chancellorsville

    Battle of Chancellorsville
    This next battle also was in Virginia and was led by General Hooker for the North and General Lee and Tackson for the South. The Confederacy also won this battle and it ruined the plan for the North for for attacking the Confederate capital in Richmond. Although, there's a twist, because of misconceptions, two confederate armies fired against eachother when they thought that they were the Yankees. In this, General "Stonewall" Jackson was shot and later died.
  • Battle of Gettysburg

    Battle of Gettysburg
    From July 1st until the 4th, in 1863, General Mead from the North and General Lee and General Picket from the South battled eachother in Pennsylavania with the Union going for the win. While both sides were recieving reinforcements at Gettysburg, they ran into eachother with Union at the center with Confederates charging. Although, the Yankees had a better aim at the Rebels. This was important to the Union since France and Britain didn't want to help the South anymore after this loss.

    Near the Mississippi in the South the Union had a large turning point in the war when the won at the Vicksburg Siege. General Grant had a 47 day siege on everyone from the South in which didn't get supplies. The North had gained the advantage of Port Hudson and that the South split in half and didn't have control of Southern ownership of the Mississippi River.

    The 6 bloodiest weeks of the Civil War was taken in a place called "The Wilderness" the sound of it already sounds mysterious! General Grant and General Lee had fought it out with not a true winner. The soldiers had fought it out against brushfires, crowded forests, and the conditions of surviving in wilderness. Within 30 days, 50,000 Union lives were lost which made people call General Grant a butcher. Although, this was important since it made Grant move onto Richmond.

    Farragut at Mobile Bay
    Captain David Farragut was a great Union officer who had led 18 wooden ships through in Mobile Bay, Alabama. Although, the wooden ships were going through a bay which was surrounded by shooting Confederate forces. All while, Farragut was suffering from heavy dizziness so he had to be tied to a post and still lead the ships. Although, the Union won. This was important since the Union had the last Souther Mississippi port.

    On the first of September, Sherman had wished to break the spirit of the South so he walked along the South, near the coast and burned and destroyed things that could be helpful to the South such as food. The Union had won this. This was important since it had made the South not have much hope of winning the war. The leader of the Union in this was General Sherman against people of the South.
  • Fall of Richmond

    Fall of Richmond
    Near the end of the war, it had seemed as if instead of Union general against Confederate general, it seemed as if Union general against the whole Confederates. So, this event that was a victory from the Union, was led by Union General Grant and the whole South although, a part of it was Lee still fighting on. They destroyed Richmond as Jefferson Davis fled from his unit. Why this was important? It ended the Civil War!

    Surrender at Appomattox
    With the Union winning this event, since the Union won, Union leader Grant and Confederate leader Lee, had Lee surrender. Since a train was caught by Yankees, it was over for the Confederates. This was important since it was the last straw for the Civil War. So, in an a court house at Appomattox, and many happy African Americans following Lincoln, Lincoln decided on letting the South keep weapons, food, horses, and no disturbance leaving to their homes.
