    In 1502, Atahualpa was born in Quito, Ecuador. His parents are Huayna Capac, his father, and Paccha Duchicela, his mother. He had several siblings, Huáscar, Manco Inca Yupanqui, Túpac Huallpa.

    Father's Death

    Father's Death
    In 1527, Atahualpa’s father, Huayna Capac, died. He died from smallpox, that was brought from the Europeans. His heir and son, Ninan Coyuchi, died as well.

    Between 1527 and 1532, the division lead to a war called the Inca Civil War, also known as the War of Two Brothers. Huáscar’s commanded a loyal army. However, Atahualpa had the loyalty to a large professional Inca army, with three outstanding generals.

    In 1527, after Huayna Capac died, his vast land was split between two of his sons: Atahualpa and Huáscar. Atahualpa gained the northern portion, its center in the city of Quito. As Huáscar gained the southern part, the capital city of Cuzco.

    In 1532, Atahualpa won the Inca Civil War. He imprisoned and eventually killed his half brother. Because of his win, Atahualpa became the emperor of the Incas.

    On November 15, 1532, Spanish conquistador, Francisco Pizarro arrived in Cajamarca. He presents the Inca with a Holy Bible, wanting Atahualpa to change the Inca culture to Christianity. However, this made Atahualpa angry, so he turned down the offer.

    Battle of Cajamarca
    On November 16, 1532, the disagreement lead to yet, another war called Battle of Cajamarca. The Battle of Cajamarca was between the Spanish and Inca. However, the Spaniards had several advantages, unknown to the Inca. As a result, the Spanish won the war.

    Captured!
    Ultimately, in 1532, Francisco Pizarro captured Atahualpa. He held Atahualpa for control and power over the Inca. However, Atahualpa was still in command of the Inca.

    In 1533, Atahualpa was held for ransom by the Spaniards. Atahualpa paid immense amount of gold and silver. This got him nowhere closer to escaping.

    On July 26, 1533, the Spanish executed Atahualpa. His death was the fall of the Inca empire. For he was the second to last Incan emperor.
