Astronomers Timeline

  • 255 BCE

    Eratosthenes

He is know for making the first measurement of earth which is also know as circumference. This discovery is important because it helped and evolved measuring other planets.
  • 1532

    Nicolaus Copernicus

He was mathematician and astronomer who said that the sun was the center of the universe and the earth revolved around it. He would pave the way to letting astronomers study what planets orbit the sun.
  • 1543

    Claudius Ptolemy

He considered the Earth was the center of the universe. Another thing he did was he presented details for the motions of each of the planets. These discovery help scientist understand more about the motion of other planets.
  • Tycho Brahe

He worked in developing astronomical instruments and in measuring and fixing the positions of stars paved the way for future discoveries. This would help lead to the inventing of the telescope.
  • Johannes Kepler

He is known for the law of planetary motion. With him discovering that and two other laws this made a breakthrough for scientist in the future and is still being used today.
  • Sir Isaac Newton

He developed the principles of modern physics. He also helped create the 3 laws of motion. These are important because scientist still used these methods today.
  • Albert Einstein

He discovered the theory of relativity. With him doing so it help revolutionized our understanding of space, time, gravity, and universe.
