Amendments to the Constitution

  • 1st Amendment Religios and Political Freedom

    There will be no laws concerning any religion or prohibiting a certain religion. There will be no law prohibiting freedom of speech or press. The people are allowed to assemble peacefully.
  • 2nd Amendment Right to Bear Arms

    All people have the right to carry weapons and use them when threatened. You can carry a gun.
  • 3rd Amendment Quartering Troops

    During a time of peace, no soldier shall be quartered, without consent of owner. Nor during a time of war.
  • 4th Amendment Search and Seizure

    The people shall not have any unreasonable searches of their homes and papers. Personal rights will not be violated. No warrant will be issued to support an unreasonable cause.
  • 5th Amendment Rights of Accused Persons

    No person shall be held for capital crime unless presented with a Grand Jury. No person shall be compelled to be a witness against himself. Nor deprived of liberty, life, or property.
  • 6th Amendment Rights to a Speedy, Public Trial

    During all prosecutions, the accused shall have the right to a speedy, public trial. The accused will have an impartial jury of the state. The 6th amendment gives the rights to a fair trial.
  • 7th Amendment Trial by Jury in Civil Cases

    The people have the right to a trial by jury in civil cases. If the value in the controversy is exceeding $20. No fact tried by the jury will be tried by law.
  • 8th Amendment Limits to Fines and Punishments

    There will be no cruel or unusual punishments shall be inflicted. No excessive bail will be put on release of criminal.
  • 9th Amendment Rights of People

    Laws will not be made to “deny or disparage” the right of other people. Laws are to be made to make all the people equal.
  • 10th Amendment Powers of States and People

    The power that is not held by the U.S. is reserved to the states, or to the people.
  • 11th Amendment Lawsuits Againts States

    The Judicial power shall not extend any lawsuit. They shall not prosecute against a favored state or the citizens of that state.
  • The 12th Amendment Election of Executives

    This amendment focuses on the election of executives, the president and his cabinet. People can vote for one of the two candidates. This is within certain regulations. The 12th amendment provides the procedure for electing the President and Vice President.
  • The 13th Amendment Slavery Abolished

    No person shall serve another, unless for punishment, will exist in the U.S. No subject will be placed in their jurisdiction. Slavery is abolished completely.This Amendment outlaws slavery and involuntary servitude, except as punishment for a crime
  • 14th Amendment Civil Rights

    Every person has rights. All people will have the right to life, liberty, and property. All people born in the U.S. are subject to jurisdiction.
  • 15th Amendment Rights to Vote

    All citizens have the right to vote. That right will not be abridged or denied. The congress will have the power to enforce this article.
  • The 16th Amendment Income Tax

    The Congress has the power to create and collect taxes.
  • 17th Amendment Direct Election of Senators

    Each Senator is elected by the people, for a six year term. When there is vacancies occur, the executive authority of that state will issue writs of election to fill the vacancies. This amendment is not constructed to affect the election or term of any senator.
  • 18th Amendment Prohibition

    The manufacture, sale, and transportation of intoxicating alcohol is prohibited. The States have power to enforce this law. This article will remain inoperative unless it is ratified.
  • The 19th Amendment

    This amendment prohibits any citizen of the United States to be denied the right to vote based on sex. All citizens have the right to vote.
  • The 21st Amendment

    This amendment repeals the Eighteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution, which had mandated nationwide Prohibition on alcohol. The 18th amendment has been repealed. The transportation or importation into any territory, state, or possessions of the united states for use of liquors is prohibited.
  • 20th Amendment Lame Duck

    The end of a term for the president and vice-president is on noon on the 20th day of January. The end of a term for Senators and Representatives is at noon on the 3rd day of January. Unless the person has been reelected.
  • The 22nd Amendment

    This amendment sets a term limit for election to the office of President and Vice-President of the United States. A President and Vice-President will have a term that lasts 4 years. He/ she may have up to 2 terms. After his/her two terms are up, a new President will be elected by the electoral college.
  • 23rd Amendment Voting in District of Columbia

    The District of Colombia will engage electors, equal to the amount of Senators and Representatives in Congress, to determine the vote for the least populated state. They shall meet in the district and preform those duties provided by the 12th amendment. Congress has power to enforce this article.
  • 24th Amendment Abolition of Poll Tax

    The right to vote will not be abridged by anyone for any reason. The right to vote will not be denied for any reason. The Congress has the power to enforce this article with appropriate legislation.
  • 25th Amendment Presidential Disability, Succession

    When the president is removed from office, dies, or resigns during his term, the Vice-President will become the president. When and if there is a vacancy in the Vice-Presidents’ office, the president will nominate vice-president and will take office on confirmation of both houses.
  • The 26th Amendment

    All citizens above the age of 18 are allowed to vote. This privilege will not be denied or abridged. The congress will have power to enforce this article.Many people had debated over lowering the voting age in America from 21 to 18 began during World War II and intensified during the Vietnam War. Young men denied the right to vote were being conscripted to fight for their country. They thought this was unfair that they could fight for their country, but couldn’t vote.
  • 27th Amendment Congressional Pay

    No law changing compensation for the service of the Senators and Representatives, will take effect until the representatives have intervened.
