    Between 330-340 AD the emperor of Aksum, converted Ethiopia to Coptic Christianity. Ethiopia made that their main religion and many people still practice Christianity and Coptic Christianity.

    In 1150 the Zagwe dynasty came into power as the Aksum kingdom slowly lost power. The era when the Zagwe dynasty ruled is the most creative era in Ethiopia history. They taught Ethiopia to make many things including rock-hewn chruches.

    In 1493 the Portuguese established contact with Ethiopia mainly to convert them to Roman Catholicism and also to strengthen their influence of trading over the Indain Ocean.

    When Menelik denouced his treaty in 1893 between Ethiopia and Italy war broke out between the two countries in 1895. Finally in 1896 Ethiopia defeated Italian forces and declared themselves independent. Ethiopia was one of the first countries in Afrcia to gain it's independence, along with Liberia.

    In 1936 the Italians came back into Ethiopia and ruled there for 4 years until 1941 when Ethiopian forces expelled the Italians. They then declared their independence again after they first declared themselves independent in 1896.

    After Haile Selassie's rule of Ethiopia ended Meginstu came into power and civil war broke out between Ethiopia and Eritrea. Eritrea wanted independence from Ethiopia. They wanted to overthrow Ethiopian leader Mengistu. The war finally ended in 1991 and Eritrea became it's own country and a Tigray's People Liberation Front (TPLF) led government took over in Ethiopia.
