The US drops the atomic bomb.
The US dropped the first ever atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan. The bomb caused an unprecednt amount of devastation and the effects were shocking. Two days later, another bomb was dropped on Nagasaki forcing the Japanese to surrender. -
VJ Day
Japan surrenders, effectively ending World War II. The Japanese maintained a public position of fighting until the end even after Germany was defeated. But the devastation caused by two atomic bombs finally broke their spirit.
