Pickett's Charge (Third and final day of Gettysburg)
Pickett's Charge was one of Robort E. Lee's biggest mistakes in the Civil War. The Confederate's casualties were 5,675 while the Union suffered from a smaller loss of about 1,500. After the charge, the Confederate Army retreated, and later Lee resigned from the army. -

President Lincoln apointed Ulysses S. Grant General of the Union Army. -
The Battle of the Wilderness
The Battle of the Wilderness took place in a forest near Richmond, Virginia. This battle was won by the Confederacy. Lee's army refused to let Grant's pass. The battle lasted until May 7th. -
The Battle of Spotsylvania Courthouse
Again Grant tries to get past Lee on his right flank. The battle lasted until May 20th when Grant stopped and targeted the Hanover Junction. This was a costly battle for both sides, the Confederates losing around 12,000 and the Union around 20,000. -
Sherman's Army Reaches Atlanta
The city of Atlanta was captured by Sherman's army. After the capture, he planned to march through Georgia, from Atlanta to Savannah. -
Sherman's March to the Sea Begins
The March to the Sea was one of two campaigns General Grant arranged for the year 1864. Led by General Sherman, they would try to take over Atlanta, Georgia, and destroy any railroad station on their way. It began when Sherman and his army left the burning city of Atlanta. -
The End to the March to the Sea
Slocum ordered General Hazen to carry Fort McAllister by assault. It was a strong, enclosed redoubt, garrisoned by 200 men. It was carried, and this was the ending of the march from Atlanta to the sea. -
Robert E. Lee's surrender
Lee's surrender at Appomattox Courthouse ended the Civil War after four long years of brothers fighting brothers. -
The Assassination of Abraham Lincoln
Only three days after the Civil War ended, Abraham Lincoln was shot in a theater by John Wilkes Booth.
