Changes in housing since the 1950's

    In the 50's houses were built with 2-3 bedrooms, kitchen, small living area and 1 bathroom and laundry usually out the back of the house. they were made from such materials as concrete and fibro. Some prefabricated house were even brought in from ohter countries.
  • 1960's homes

    1960's homes
    Housing changed quite significantly in the 1960's as a result of cars being more avaliable and afordable. This ment that people could now build homes further away as the y did not need to be close to public transport. This also meant that houses were being built with garages along with maybe an extra bathroom or bedroom and more living are.
  • 1970's homes

    1970's homes
    In 1970 people started to move out to the country and strt building energy efficiant houses with aterials like mud brick and raw timber.
  • 1980's homes

    In the 1980's houses continued to grow and two story houses were becoming more popular, verandars and fireplaces.
  • 1990's homes

    In the 90's cities and communities continued to expand and people and the houses did the same.
  • 21 century homes

    21 century homes
    Today house are significantly larger mostly made from brick. They average on having 3-4 bedrooms, 2-3 bathrooms and air conditioned. Many people also now live apartments and units.
