  • Adolf Hitler Appointed Chancellor of Germany

    The Nazi Party won more seats in the German Parliament. That wasn't the only effect that allowed him to become Chancellor. The Great Depression helped him gain power because people were struggling through those ruff times and needed someone to take charge and look up to. Hitler was determined, knew what he wanted and needed. (Propaganda) Franz Von Papen was the chancellor before Hitler. He still wanted power so he said he would be vice chancellor if Hitler became chancellor.
  • Burning of the Reichstag

    The Reichstag which was the German House of Parliament was set on fire on this night. The people looked at this as the symobol for the death of democracy. Hitler needed something like this to happen so he could use it as an advantage. He blamed it on the Communists. The blame went to a dutch communist named Marinus van der Lubbe. The Nazis were considered to because people thought Hitler did it.
  • Neautrality Act of 1935

    The law passed by U.S. Congress and was signed by President Franklin Roosevelt. It was made to keep the United States out of the European war. It didn't allow shipment of war materials and to keep U.S. citizens from traveling on vessels except if it was at their own risk because of war.
  • FDR's Quarantine Speech

    It was a speech given by President FDR in Chicago. He wanted to talk about how the other nations though about political ideas of the America neautrality and isolationism at that time. The countries that were causing protest weren't mention but was believed to be Japan, Italy, and Germany. The public had mixed feelings and the newspaper criticized the speech.
  • The Annexation of Austria

    Hitler wanted to take over the German speaking countries. Those were Austria, Czechoslavakia, and Rhineland. His first focus was on Austria. Austria was an independent state by the Treaty of Versailles. The Austrian people thought of it as they were bringing everyone togehter and that was an important to tell. He wanted to bring all the Europe's Germans togehter in one state, Greater Germany. He took over places he wanted, he kept gaining power. No one stopped him for a while.
  • The Munich Pact

    Germany, Italy, France, and Great Britain signed the Munich Pact in Munich Germany. The pact was made for the appeasement of Hitler. It basically allowed Hitler to keep the land he already took and he promised not to take over anymore of the European territory.
  • The Non Agression Pact

    Hitler was preparing for war at this time even though he wanted to take over Poland without force like he did with Austria. he was trying to plan ahead incase there was a two-front war. He didn't want that to happen because that took place in WWI and that split the German forces and weakend them. That made them lose and he didn't want that mistake repeated. So he thought and decided to make the pact with the Soviets. Even though the sides didn't like each other they thought it would be best.
  • The Invasion of Poland

    This German invasion is the beginning of WWII in Europe. Germany invaded Poland then Britain, France, and Cananda declared war on Germany a couple days later. The Soviet Union joins not too long after on Germany's side.
  • The Cash and Carry Act

    The law passd by U.S. Congress and signed by FDR. The cash and carry allowed the U.S. to supply nations at war with materials and supply even though the U.S. were isolationists because they didn't want to be involved. It was a good way to make money and help. If they needed material they would have to pay for it up front and had to transport it themselves.
  • The Tripartite Pact

    This pact a was signed by Japan, Italy, and Germany. They were the Axis power. They were able to be in an alliance with each other because there individual goals didn't conflict. The pact basically said if Germany, Italy, or Japan is being attacked by the U.S. then the other two nations had to send help. Japan really liked that because they could gain more by bringing in the U.S. into war.
  • The Lend/Lease Act

    The Lend Lease was passed by Congress so that the United States can help the nations that are fighting the Axis powers. It allowed the president to ship weapons, food, or any equipment that the nations that were fighting with the Axis powers because they were defending the U.S. This act ended United States neautrality but it helped them out a lot.
  • The Attack on Pearl Harbor

    The U.S. forces Pearl Harbor Naval base in Hawaii got attacked by Japanese torpedos and bomber planes. The U.S. was very upset, so president FDR asked Congress to declare war on Japan and they did. This is one of the major events that made the U.S. involved in war such as WWII.
