    The Spanish arrive in the Carribean and find Indians and gold.
  • Defeat of Spanish Armada

    The English fought Spain while having better weapons and faster ships.

    All men decide to officially settle Jamestown.

    Anglo-Powhatan War

    The English gave the colonists orders to make war against the Indians, which only made relations worse. The war was finally officially over with the marriage of Pocahantas and John Rolfe. But even after the marriage, the relationship between colonists and settlers were still quite uneasy.
  • Pivotal Year in Jamestown

    The House of Burgesses was created as the first representative comittee and the first Africans were just arriving. Both of these events affected the rest of Americas history.

    England was too busy and ignored the colonies. This led the colonists to believe they would have many freedoms forever

    Settlement of bay colony by those who wanted religious freedom, the Purtians

    Pequot Wars

    The colonists attach one of the most powerful tribes in the Connecticut river valley. The results left the pequot village destroyed.
  • Slave Codes

    Slave codes were established so that people would know what the laws were about how to deal and treat slaves. Slaves were considered property and did not "deserve" education.

    The Great Awakening

    Preachers like Jonathan Edwards and George Whitfield spoke "fire and brimstone" sermons that challenged the audience. The Great Awakening resulted in new denominations and the splitting of already formed denominations. It created more of an interest in religion and the first colleges were founded to train ministers.

    The last of the 13 colonies was founded by Oglethorpe as a haven for debtors

    French and Indian War

    Early on in these battles the colonists did not do so well. But when William Pitt took charge, he changed some strategies and the colonists started doing better. The English/colonists won which led to the french territory in North America and a huge debt to pay off in England. Because of the debt, England had to start taxing the colonies.
  • Colonial disunity

    Conflicts between east and backcountry.
  • Stamp Act

    This act required that all legal and printed documents have a stamp on them provided by the british government. Everyone was affected by this which cause some sort of colonial unity by everyone agreeing on something they hate.
  • Quartering Act

    Soldiers can be housed anywhere and the colonists basically had to fund it.
  • Townshend Acts

    These acts put a tax on lead, paint, glass and tean. They also wante to put governors and Judges on the British payroll so that the British could have control over them. The colonial leaders had a hard time coming up with philisophical objections to these acts.
  • Boston Massacre

    The Boston "Massacre" resulted in only a few casualties and did not have as big of an affect on the colonies that the title might allude to. John Hancock and John Adams both decided then that they were done with action.
  • Tea Act

    The British wanted to save the British East India Tea Company from going bankrupt so they put 3 pence on each pound of tea which actually lowered prices for the colonies. But even though the prices were lowered, the colonists hated the idea that they were being taxed. The act also put out other tea merchants in the area and shut down the smugglers.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Due to the Tea Act, the sons of liberty dressed as Indians and threw tea over into the Boston Harbour to prove that they were not happy with the tea tax. The colonists also wanted the British to make an unwise choice in this situation so that the colonies looked good.
  • First Continental Congress

    They made the declaration of rights
  • Battle at Lexington and Concord

    The first battles of the Revolutionary war against Britian.

    Revolutionary War

    The process of the birth of a new nation. War against the colonists (Americans) and the British.
  • Bunker HIll

    This battle was a victory for the colonists even thought they lost a huge amount of soldiers. Even with the huge loss on the colonists side, the British lost even more.
  • Rebellion

    England officially declares colonies in a state of rebellion.
  • Declaration of Independence

    The Constitutional Convention declared Independence on this date. The declaration was mostyly wirtten by Thomas Jefferson.
  • Philadelphia 1777

    British Commander, Howe< captures PHiladelphia and refuses to leave
  • Battle of Saratoga

    Turning point in the war for the colonists because after this battle the French decided to team up with the colonists.
  • Land Ordinance

    Once 5000 adult male residents lived in an area, they could have a legislature
  • 1786 Annapolis Convention

    Only 5 states showed up so they called for another meeting in Pennsylvania
  • France declares war on England

    George Washington says to stay completely out of it
  • Election

    John Adams is president and has a federalist vice president, Thomas Jefferson.
  • Convention on 1800

    Voided perpetual alliance with France and created a commercial treaty with France
  • Burr's proposal

    Burr proposes to the British foreign minister saying that he will detach and give them Louisiana from the US in exchange for half a million dollars
  • Election of James Madison

    James Madison is voted as president. He was previously Secretary of State and he was not very popular
  • Non Intercourse Act

    Replaced the embargo act and was more specific. It said that there would be no trade with Britain and opened trade in the US.
  • Erskine agreement

    Agreement between Britain and the US that will drop the Orders of Council which re-opened trade between US and Britain, but Britain changes their mind and it never happens
  • Emabargo on Britain

    US has an embargo against England and is technically trading with France and England is ticked off
  • Declaring War

    War was declared in war by a vote in the House of 79 yes's and 49 no's.

    War of 1812

    The War of 1812 was a military conflict fought between the forces of the United States of America and those of the British Empire.[nb 2] The Americans declared war in 1812 for a number of reasons, including trade restrictions, impressment of American merchant sailors into the Royal Navy, British support of American Indian tribes against American expansion, and the humiliation of American honor.
  • Battle of Lake Erie

    US lost 80% of our troops but we still won. This victory helped us maintain control on the northwest.
  • Battle of Thames

    Tukumza is killed and the Native American unity is broken in the northwest. US has FIRM control of the northwest.
  • Battle of Horseshoe bend

    Breaks Native American power in the southeast and is taken place in Alabama. The battle is between the Creek Indians and Andrew Jackson
  • Charter for 2nd US bank

    Charter for the 2nd bank of the United stated to be created
  • Adams Onis treaty

    US gets Florida and we give up the Oregon claim. Set the 42nd parallel as the northern border of Spainsh territory
