    The Evolution of Music Players

  • Leon Scott de Martinville's Phonograph

    Leon Scott de Martinville's Phonograph
This was the first device created to record sounds and signals. The Eardrum was modeled by giving the player a funnel-like horn or a small open barrel, made by parchment or other suitable material. A thin coating of finely divided carbon deposited by the flame of an oil or gas lamp, was on a moving surface of paper or glass. The sound collected by the phonograph was transmitted to the bristle which collected the variations in air pressure, which simulated sound waves. It can only record sounds.
  • Thomas Edison's Phonograph

    Thomas Edison's Phonograph
Unlike Martinville's creation that could record sounds, Edison's Phonograph was the first device to reproduce the sounds and record human voice. His phonograph recorded sound onto a tinfoil sheet wrapped around a rotating cylinder. A stylus responding to sound vibrations produced an up and down groove in the foil. The stylus vibrated a diaphragm which produced sound through a horn. This acoustic Phonograph was a historical moment in music history.
  • Emile Berliner's Gramophone

    Emile Berliner's Gramophone
This music player device is exactly like Edison's Phonograph, but it is electric, unlike the acoustic. Emile was the one who discovered recording the sound waves on to disks made of glass or plastic, rather then a cylinder. This was significant because now that recording could be played multiple times rather then once. To play the music the record was rotated. The "arm" held a needle that read the grooves in the record by vibration and transmitted the data to the speaker (shaped like a horn).
  • I.D.E.A's Portable Transitor Radio

    I.D.E.A's Portable Transitor Radio
This device changed the music industry. Unlike any music play before the Radio, it is small, portable and easy to use. It made life easier for human's. This Radio also didn't need big disks to play the music. I.D.E.A's radio allowed music lovers to easily pick music to listen to wherever the may choose. This is an example of new generations and technology. It ran of batteries.
  • Henry Kloss's Portable Stereo

    Henry Kloss's Portable Stereo
Henry Kloss developed the very first portable stereo in 1962 when he released the KHL model 11. The Model 11 was the first transistorized stereo system, and featured a record player, amplifier and two speakers which all folded neatly into a “suitcase” for easy transportation. While the stereo only ran on A/C power, not batteries, it still was a milestone in the development of portable music players. This invention yet again made life better for humans.
  • Walkman Cassette Tape Player

    Walkman Cassette Tape Player
This music player was made in 1979. The portable music play called Walkman allowed people to listen to Cassette's wherever they are with portable headphones. Unlike the first portable radio, the Walkman was easier to use. It had simple buttons used to pause and play the sounds the player produced. The headphones allowed the person who was listen to have to privacy in what they are listening to.
  • Discman Portable CD Player

    Discman Portable CD Player
Soon after the CD's were created, a portable CD player was made. Produced by Sony, a new, potable, easy to use, device was born. Unlike the Cassettes, CD were smaller, thiner, longer lasting and more fragile. Sony worked towards both improving the design, reducing the power and number of parts needed, while decreasing the overall size of the player. All these changes were made to make life easier for the listeners. The CD players, and portable CD players, evolved the music industry greatly.
  • MPMan (MP3 player)

    MPMan (MP3 player)
A South Korean company created the very first MP3 player in 1998. This was one of the first music devices that didn't use cassettes, Disks, or records, but instead, memory and SD cards. The change to this device was made to make things easier for the user. They were now portable and you didn't need to carry around loads of CDs and Cassettes etc.. The device also need modern technology, such as frequency, memory and batteries, This was a very hands free device created to produce music.
  • Apple's iPod

    Apple's iPod
This device came out after the creation of the music store "iTunes". The iPod only relied one the use of 1s and 0s, or in other words, data. It had storage, and could hold loads of songs. This made the use of CDs, Cassettes and Records completely useless. The music device was portable, easy to use, really small and allowed users to have as much music as their storage can hold. Everything was clearly displayed and was simple and easy to use. It allowed use of headphones.
  • Apple's iPhone and iPod Touch

    Apple's iPhone and iPod Touch
Unlike the many music players before, Apple's new and improved devices have loads of storage. Not only just for music, but for games, pictures, videos, social media and much more. These devices also have a touch screen that can sense the users touch. This allows the user to easily and quickly navigate through the many thing the device can do.It's crazy how they shrunk all the CDs, Cassettes, Records and the data used to make them into a small, portable device that has changed the life of many.
