    Why did his wife commit suidice when they had finally landed? It could've been a number of things. She may have, once they had finnaly reached their destionation, jumped ship because the people around her may have been playing up a lot and when they got there it wasn' t what she had hoped. May be she was forced into her marriage and really didn't love him. Ergo, she was forced into traveling the long, hard voyage and snapped once they hit land. Either way it was never said or mentioned.

    How does Mary feel about her Native American captors? I was under the impression that she was accepting of them, that she began to be like them. She was adapting to her environment and soon became emotionally attached, though she recalled the experiance as a harmful and tramautizing one. It was, of course, but she treated them as her own source of life.
