  • World War I

    The cause of WW1 was the Assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand at Sarajevo on 28 June 1914. War was declared on July 28th, 1914. WW1 is important because of the scale of people who died and the impact it had globally.
  • The Great Depression

    The Great Depression was a severe economic downturn caused by an overly-confident stock market and a drought that struck the South. It was the longest, deepest and wide-spread depression of the 20th Century.
  • World War II

    World War 2 was a war fought primarily between the Axis Powers (Nazi Germany, Italy, and Japan) and the Allies (France, the United Kingdom, the Soviet Union, and the United States). Although World War II was started by Nazi Germany in their attempt to conquer Europe, it turned into the largest and the bloodiest war in world history. There were around 40 to 70 million deaths, many of whom were civilians.
  • Pearl Habour

    The Japanese had attacked the United States at Pearl Habour in Hawaii. This disastrous attack forced the Americans into war. The reason Pearl Harbour is important is because it brought America into war. Otherwise, America would have stayed neutral.
  • Dropping of the Atomic Bomb

    On the 6th and 9th of August, 1945, two nuclear weapons for use in war, one powered by uranium-235 and the other by plutonium and fissionable material, named 'Little Boy' and 'Fat Man' were dropped on two Japanese cities: Hiroshima and Nagasaki each.
  • Indonesian Independence

    Indonesia had benn fighting against the forces of Netherlands and Dutch civilians as they had been controlling Indonesia at the time.
  • Indian Indepence

    On this day, India finally split from Pakistan and became its own country. It was important because they were free from the British.
  • The Vietnam War

    The Vietnam war started as a result of U.S. strategy of containment during the Cold War, which aimed to prevent the spread of communism throughout the world.
  • Nelson Mandela Freed

    Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 27 years because of standing up against a government that was committing shocking human rights abuses against black South Africans. This is important because everybody has the right to equality.
  • Germany Reunited

    On the 3rd of October 1990, West Germany and East Germany ended 45 years of division that began after the unpleasant World War II by reuniting to become one nation.
