  • The Serviceman's Readjustment Act passed

    The Serviceman's Readjustment Act or GI bill gave many benefits to returning soldiers and veterans from World War II, such as gave loans for houses, low-cost medical treatment, and gave them educational benefits.
  • The Atomic Bomb

    During the war, the United States had been the first country to successfully use nuclear weaponry. They dropped the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, leveling the two Japanese cities.
  • World War II ends

    In 1945, one of the most horrific wars the world had ever seen came to an end. The Nazi regime had successfully been defeated, but not without the loss of millions of soldiers and jews.
  • Baseball is Integrated

    Baseball was integrated when Jackie Robinson was the first African American to play professional baseball. He played for the Brooklyn Dodgers.
  • The National Security Act passed

    When the National Security Act was passed, it created many useful offices in the U.S government, such as The Central Intelligence Agency, the Air Force, and the National Security Council.
  • The Cold War begins

    Soon after World War II ended, the Cold War began. The U.S could never come to agreements with the Soviet Union. The Soviet Union wanted to spread their communist ideology to the rest of the world while the United States wanted to contain them. Thus beginning the Cold War.

    The Marshall Plan allowed America to provide economic relief to war post-war Europe and allow them to get their economy up and running
  • The Korean War

    The Korean war was a war fought between North and South Korea along with the United States aiding South Korea and the Soviet Union aiding North Korea. This war also influenced the Cold War. This war left a divided North and South Korea.
