    President McKinley was killed by anarchist Leon Czolgosz. Vice president Theodore Roosevelt became president.
  • Invention of the Radio

    The first transatlantic wireless message or radio message was created by Guglielmo Marconi. This would later become a huge form of communication used in many forms, from military to entertainment.
  • Roosevelt Corollary to the Monroe Doctrine

    The Monroe Doctrine would considered any European intervention in Latin America as a threat to America. Roosevelt added to this by stating that United States had the right to intervene in Latin American countries to correct administrative and fiscal deficiencies.
  • Gentleman's Agreement

    Agreement reached between Japan and the United States to help suspend the immigration of Japanese laborers to the United States.
  • "The Jungle" is Published

    Written by Upton Sinclair, "The Jungle" is a novel about exploitation of labor. It revealed the unsafe and unsanitary conditions of the slaughterhouses. The novel led to the Meat and Pure Food and Drug Act.
  • Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire

    The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory in Manhattan caught fire that lead to 146 deaths and 71 people injured. The doors of the factory had been locked and the fire escape ladders broke immediately. This was a year after the workers had gone on strike demanding better conditions. This event also opened peoples minds to the need of reformation.
  • United States Produces One Third of World's Industrial Output

    This was more than Britain, France and Germany combined.
  • Fall of Huerta's Government

    Victor Huerta, leader of revolution against Diaz, resigned. This was after American troops took the city of Veracruz, preventing German arms to reach by ship.
  • Germany Declared War on Russia

    After Austria declared war on Siberia, Russia got involved in the war to protect Siberia. Germany declared war of Russia to protect Austria.
  • Great Britain Declared War on Germany

    Germany planed on attacking Russia by marching trough Belgium and France, violating Belgium's neutrality. Britain declared war on Germany for failing to keep Belgium's neutrality.
  • Sinking of the Lusitania

    Germans sank the Lusitania with a torpedo from their submarines. It resulted in over a hundred deaths and was one of the reasons the United States would later declare war.
  • Villa's attack on New Mexico

    Poncho Villa and hundreds of supporters attack Columbus, New Mexico. They killed over a dozen people. Villa disappeared for more than year after the incident.
  • Naval Act

    President Wilson stated that the united states would obtain the largest and the greatest navy in the world. This act was passed because of the threat of war coming from Europe.
  • United States Declares War on Germany

    President Wilson, afraid of a dis-balance in European power if Germany wins the war, declared war on Germany with an unprepared military. The submarine attacks and the treats of war from Mexico led by Germany were important factors to shift the public opinion towards war.
  • Russian Surrender to Germany

    The Russian surrender was a direct result of the collapse of the tsarists regime. Russia exiting the war was disastrous for the allies. This made the war a one front war for Germany, which was a large advantage for Germany contrary to the difficult two front war.
  • A Cease-Fire Agreement was Made

    After failing to break into the western front with several attacks, the German army was disintegrated after they were forces out of France by British and American troops. This was considered to be the ultimate defeat, that lead to the cease-fire.
  • The Passing of the Nineteenth Amendment

    After many years of insisting and fighting for this right, women were granted the right to vote through the Nineteenth Amendment.
