  • The Boston Tea Party

    The British government placed a tax on tea. The American colonies were not happy so threw all the tea into Boston Bay. This was the event that started the American Revolution and Independence.
  • The First Steam Engine was built

    James Watt the invented the modern steam engine. Watt's invention changed the world for ever because it meant machinery and forms of transport could work harder/go fster. He built the engine in Scotland and the steam engine was used in mines.
  • American Decloration of Independance

    The American Declaration of Independence was when the 13 american colonies decided they wanted to be independent from England. It was signed in Philadelphia in the town hall by Benjamin Franklin. The English declared war on these american colonies which is know known as The United States of America.
  • The French Revolution begins.

    The start of the revoution was when the french people wanted to over turn the king and take his power. A French mob stormed the Bastille mainly for weapons and explosives to fight the upper class french. Because of this revolt and the American revolt the latin american countries tried to revolt.
  • The First Passanger railway

    George Stephensen builds the first passanger railway between Liverpool and Manchester. It was the world's first twin track inter-city railway.
  • Melbourne was Discovered

    Melbourne was discovered after early settlelers were going along the Yarra River and thought it would be a good place to form a town at the time. In the 1850's Melbourne boomed because of the Gold Rush.
  • Disvored Gold

    Edward Hargraves discovers gold near Bathurst, New South Wales. Which trigged many more gold rushes around Australia like the golld rush in Ballarat.
  • The Civil War

    Abraham Lincoln the leader of the northern states at the time. The southern states of America wanted to keep their slaves and the northern states wanted to free all states. This is called The Civil War. The northern states won which is why slaves are not used in america to this day.
  • The Invention of the Telephone

    Alexander Graham Bell succesfully tested the telephone with his assistant on the 10th of March 1876. The telephone revolutionised the worlds communication foreveer because of its ease to use and more efficent than the telegram and other previous methods of communication.
  • The Invention of the Lightbulb

    Thomas Edison created the first electrically powered lightbulb. This changed the world forever because the extra light now lets people work anytime of the day. The candle which was the only light source before the electrical lightbulb was only putting a small output of light.
  • Boer War

    It was a war between the British and the Dutch, fighting for valuable recourses Gold and Diamonds mainly. This unfolded in southern Africa. Three Australian soldiers were arrested for murdering Boar prisoners which saw two of them to be executed by the firing squad and the third person was returned to Australia after a public outcry.
  • Conference of Berlin

    The imperial race for land in Africa was the main reason for World War 1. This conference was made up of all the European powers to discuss and formalise their race for land.
  • Birth of Adolf Hitler

    He is later the leader of the Nazi's and takes over parts of Europe. The world is affected because of the Holocaust.
  • First man carrying flight

    Brothers Orville and Wilbur Wright achieved the first controlled, powered, man carrying flighte ever in north Carolina. They thought that it was impossible to fly on something heavier than air.
  • Henry Ford first model

    Henry Ford wanted to create a automobil that average American workers would be able to afford, and out of this determination came the ford model T. Henry aslo invented the assembly line for automoble creation.
  • Conscription in Australia

    Australia had never had conscription, untill 1911 the Federal Government introduced it. They made men up to the age of 25 to do compulsory military training. Australia had always had their military for defense not for being sent overseas.
  • The Titanic Sinks

    The Titanic the worlds largest passenger steamship back then, hits an iceberg in the north-west Atlantic ocean and sinks killing 1517 people.
  • The Assassination of Archduke Franz Ferinand

    Archduke was shot by a Serbian on this day. This is what sparked the war Austria-Hungry declared war on Serbia bringing in Russia which brought in Germany which brought in France and Great Britain. The alliences were the reason all the different countries were involved.
  • World War 1

    World War 1 broke out when Britain declared war on Germany.The First World War began when Britain and Prime Minister Andrew Fisher's government showed full support for Britain. The outbreak of war was greeted in Australia, as in many other places, with great enthusiasm.
  • World War 1 Ends

    World War 1 Ends with Germany in defeat. The United Kingdom, France, America, Russia, Serbia, Portugal, Greece, Italy, Romania, Montegro were fighting against the Germans which caused the deafeat.
