    At the Yalta Conference, it was agreed to divide Germany amongst USSR, USA, France, Great Britain. Giving the USSR power over Eastern Germany causing conflict. Berlin was located in Eastern Germany, causing many people trying to escape and Stalin builds a wall.

    Truman Doctrine
    the principle that the US should give support to countries or peoples threatened by Soviet forces or Communist insurrection. First expressed in 1947 by US President Truman in a speech to Congress seeking aid for Greece and Turkey, the doctrine was seen by the Communists as an open declaration of the Cold War.

  • Chinese Civil War

    Chinese Civil War
    There were two sides to this war the communists led by Mao Zedong and the nationalists led by Chiang Kai-Shek. The USSR supported the Communists in China because they wanted China to be allies with them. Mao Zedong won this war and became Communists and allies with the Soviet Union (USSR).

    North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), 1949. The North Atlantic Treaty Organization was created in 1949 by the United States, Canada, and several Western European nations to provide collective security against the Soviet Union.

    During the time of the korean war, china had just become communists and the domino theory was in effect. Northern korea wanted to be communists but southern Korea was against it. This Civil war lasted three years and the two sides gave up and stopped fighting. North Korea stays communist and South Korea stays Democratic.

    The Domino Theory was a theory that if a surrounding country became communist then the other countries around it would become communist as well. Resulting in the name the Domino Theory. This theory was said by U.S. President, Dwight D. Eisenhower.

    It was the Communist counteraction to NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization). The Warsaw Pact came to be seen as quite a potential militaristic threat, as a sign of Communist dominance, and a definite opponent to American capitalism. The signing of the pact became a symbol of Soviet dominance in Eastern Europe.
