    Assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of AustriaOn June 28th, Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife were killed by Gavrilo Princip, who was one of 6 assassains coordinated by Danilo Ilic. They were all members of the Black Hand secret society. Austria-Hungary then declared war on Serbia, officially sparking World War 1.

    Austria-Hungary declares war on SerbiaThreatened by Serbian ambition in the tumultuous Balkans region of Europe, Austria-Hungary determined that the proper response to the assassinations was to prepare for a possible military invasion of Serbia. Austria-Hungary presented Serbia with a rigid ultimatum, demanding, among other things, that all anti-Austrian propaganda within Serbia be suppressed. Serbia denied the ultimatum and a couple days later Austria-Hungare Declared war on them.

Germany declared war on Russia after Russia began to mobilize it's military and Germany did not like that. When urged by Germany not to mobilize, Russia responded by saying they were only mobilizing torwards Austria-Hungary. Because Russia continued mobilizing, Germany declared war.

    The Gas Attack at Hulluch was an engagement in World War I from April 27th through April 29th 1916, between divisions of the II Bavarian Corps and divisions of the British I Corps. Just before dawn on April 27th the 16th Division and part of the 15th Division were subjected to a German cloud gas attack, near the German-held village of Hulluch, a mile north of Loos. The gas cloud and artillery bombardment were followed by raiding parties, which made temporary lodgements in the British lines.
