  • Germans Fire

    The Germans used shells filled with chlorine gas to fire at the Allies. This is definitely important because this was the first time in a war that chlorine gas was used in large amounts in a battle
  • Italy Joins the War

    Italy joins the allies by declaring war on Germany and Austria. This is important because one another country entered the war, and they are against Germany as well as the US.
  • First Tanks In the War

    This is important because this was the first time that tanks were used in a war. The British were actually to use the tanks in battle, at Delville Wood. The tanks still were not the best weapon.
  • Lusitania Sinks

    Lusitania Sinks
    This is important to me because it was an US ship that was sunk by a German Submarine. This is one reason why the US entered the war.
  • Germany Limits Submarines

    After there was lots of outrage about the Lusitania, Kaiser Wilhelm suspended unrestricted submarine warfare, so this would help prevent and keep the United States out of the war. This did not go good for the Germans because it was not letting them stop the Americans bringing supplies to France and Britain.

    Germany started to bring back the Submarines into the war, and this actually draws the US in the war.
  • Wilson for War

    Wilson for War
    President Wilson outlined his case for war to Congress. This is important to the War because the US wants to enter the war.
  • US declares War on Germany

    President Woodrow Wilson addressed Congress a few days before to declare war on Germany. The US declared war on Germany because of Germany's resumption of submarine attacks on passenger and merchant ships in 1917. Germany was also attempting to entice Mexico into an alliance against the United States.

  • Selective Service Act

    Congress passed this act to authorize the draft. There were lots of people who didn´t like this, but Wilson saw that there were no other options in this case, so he signed the bill.
  • Germany and Russia

    Germany and Russia signed a peace treaty. This happened with the new Bolshevik government of Russia. This gave Germany land, and the treaty also allowed German soldiers to shift to the Western Front that caused problems for the French British, and Americans.

    This is important to the war because this was the first major offensive of the war for the Americans. After this the Americans go into much larger attacks against Germany.

    This was a battle between Germany and the United States. The US attacked the Germans. This battle led into the battle of Belleau Wood. This is important to the War because it lead to a very deadly battle for the Americans.
  • Start of the Battle of Belleau Wood

    This was the start of a huge battle for the Americans against the Germans. There were so many casualties on an open field of wheat.
  • The end of the Battle of Belleau Wood

    This was the end of a long battle for the Americans against the Germans. The Americans forced the Germans out of the woods. This was the farthest German advance of Paris. The three-week battle ended with around 10,000 American casualties.

    Wilhelm Abdicates
    Kaiser Wilhelm abdicates, which ended all the hope the Germans had for a victory.
  • Armistice Day

    This is important because an Armistice was signed ending fighting on the WESTERN front. It ended the fighting.

    I think this is important because this is the end of the war
  • Paris Peace Conference

    This event was very important to World War 1. This did not happen when there was still fighting going on. The Conference was an International meeting in January of 1919 just outside of Paris. The main goal of the conference was to determine the peace after the World War.
