  • The Yalta Conference

    The Yalta conference was a meeting between Winston Churchill, Joseph Stalin, and Franklin D. Roosevelt on February 4, 1945. it lasted a week where they discussed Post war Europe. In the end Russia was going to rule eastern Europe and return the land that the Japanese lost during the Russo-Japan war.
  • Divided Germany

    Through the early years of the cold war, Germany would be divided up by the allied powers, Britain, United States, France, and Russia. Each Country would oversee the reconstruction and development of Germany. While the western parts of Germany were developed as democracies, eastern part controlled by the U.S.S.R was turned communist that lead it to slowly deteriorate.
  • The Berlin Airlift

    During the reconstruction of Germany, The Soviet Union blockaded Western Germany and Berlin preventing any supplies form getting to the people in the allied parts of Berlin. In response, the allied forces being the Berlin airlift that planed to bring in 5,000 tons of supplies to the Berlin populous, but that changed to 8,000 tons. The airlift was a success and The Soviet Union would end the blockade and the beginning of The Cold War.
  • Germany spit into two

    With the Berlin airlift having forced the Soviet Union to stop blockading eastern Germany, the allied join the occupation zones into a democratic West Germany and Stalin making the communist East Germany. over the next 12-ish years, about 2.5 million people escaped to West Germany to escape the soviet's tight control over them. In response to the mass amounts of people fleeing, the Berlin Wall is construced to keep people form leaving.
  • The Chinese Civil War

    This war was between Nationalist China and Communist China fighting over how there government should be ran. the Communist faction was being supported by U.S.S.R and thus were more capable of fighting the war while the Nationalist faction was holding out for the help form the U.S that never came. In the end, The Nationalist were forced out of the country and formed Thailand and China became "The People's Republic of China".
  • N.A.T.O

    The North Atlantic Treaty Organization or N.A.T.O was established to fight against the influence of communism. It's founding countries were The U.S, France, Great Britain, Belgium, the Nether lands, Denmark, Italy, Canada, Luxembourg, Norway, Iceland, and Poland. It would later have Greece, Turkey, and West Germany join.
  • Korean War

    The war kick started after Northern Korea invaded the south that brought the U.S in through an agreement between the two. the war would go one for three years before both Koreas would sign a non aggression act and the 38th parallel marking the boarder. During the war, about 5 million soldiers and civilians were killed.
  • Vietnam War

    After Vietnam gained Independence form France; the leader, Emperor Bao Dai, asked help form both the U.S. and The Soviet union to rebuild the country. The U.S. didn't respond but the Soviet's did help leading to Vietnam becoming communist and the U.S. going to stop them. The war was brutal and after a lot back lash about the war, making it what is arguably the only war america had lost.
  • The Berlin Wall

    The wall was Built (or at lest finished) in 1961 on the broader of West and East Germany to prevent anyone form entering West Germany without going through one of the 12 checkpoints. Along parts of the wall was the Death Strip with would kill at least 171 people trying to escape. The wall was 12 feet high and 4 feet thick with reinforced concrete with an large pipe, making climbing it almost imposible.
  • Fall of the Berlin Wall

    One of the signals of the end of the cold war was the the destruction of the Berlin wall. On this day the spokes person for Eastern Germany said that people were free to cross the border and lead to people swarming the gates and demanding to let out. Later on, people on both side of the began to tear down the wall with cranes, bulldozers, and picks.
