  • Evacuation of Dunkirk

    It was the evacuation of British Expeditionary Forces and other ally personnel from Dunkirk, France. Allies led by Admiral Bertram Ramsay and German forces led by Günther von Kluge. The evacuation was a success because Hitler forced Günther to pull troops back and let an air attack happen instead. Although 320,000 troops were evacuated, 24,000 were killed and 50,000 troops were taken as prisoners. Germany lost around 20,000 throughout everything.

  • Attack on Pearl Harbor

    Japan sent hundreds of Japanese fighter planes to surprise attack a naval base near Honolulu called Pearl Harbor. They damaged or destroyed nearly 20 American naval ships and over 300 airplanes. 2,400 Americans died including civilians and a thousand wounded. Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto was the mastermind and the one that came up with the air raid for the japanese. The day after FDR, president of America, asked congress to declare war.
  • Battle of Moscow

    Fought between Germans and the Soviets. German luftwaffe's were possibly commanded by Wolfram von Richthofen and Russia's being Ivan Klimov. Once winter came frostbite plagued the German armies and air battle became abated. In total Germany lost between 250,000 - 400,000 and 600,000 - 1,300,000 lost on the Soviets side. Although the Soviets lost many men, they managed to push back the Germans some 150 miles.

    Fought between Japan and America. US came out on top. Japan lost 3000 men, 300 planes, and 5 ships. America lost 360 men, 145 planes, and 2 ships. The japanese troops were led by Admiral Yamamoto and the US was led by Admiral Chester W. Nimitz.

  • Battle of Stalingrad

    Fought between the Soviets and the Nazis. Joseph Stalin led the Russian forces and Germany was led by Adolf Hitler. Soviets won control of Stalingrad. The axis powers suffered around 1000000 casualties and the Soviets with 1100000

  • Battle of Kursk

    Fought between Germans and Soviets. Occurred in western Russia. It was a German offensive that ended in a decisive win for the Soviets. It was the largest tank battle ever and ended with 800,000 Soviet casualties and 200,000 German casualties. Hitler ordered an offensive to regain dominance while Joseph Stalin led the Soviets.

  • Invasion of normandy

    It was an allied invasion of Normandy, France against Germany. Allied troops were led by Eisenhower and nazis were led by Hitler. In all 73000 deaths and 153000 wounded was the casualties of the Allies and the Germans faced 320000 casualties. This led to the freedom of northern france.

  • Battle of the Bulge

    Fought between the allies and germany on the western front. It was an unsuccessful german offensive. Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower commanded the allied troops and german troops led by Von Rundstedt. The german army lost 120000 men and the allies lost 75000.

  • Battle of Iwo Jima

    Fought between Japan and the US. It was led on the japanese side by Lieut. Gen. Kuribayashi Tadamichi and some US troops were led by Maj. Gen. Harry Schmidt. The US won the battle with very high costs. The US had casualties up to 25000 and the japanese ad around 19000.

  • Battle of Berlin

    Fought between the Soviets and Germans in Germany at Berlin. After being battered by Allied bombings, the Germans were in shambles. Ivan Konev and Georgiy Zhukov were Soviet marshals that took large casualties. Adolf Hitler, the leader of Germany, was in the center of the city in his bunker. He realized Berlin was going to be taken, and committed suicide. The soviets lost 100,000 men, and the Germans were near 92,000. This ended in the fall of Berlin.
