    Archduke Franz Ferdinand was assassinated
    The heir to the throne, Archduke Franz Ferdinand, was assassinated by a Serbian nationalist. He was shot too death along with his wife, Sophie. This took place in Sarajevo, Bosnia. This assassination was considered the spark that ignited the fire of war.
  • Germany declared war on Russia

    Germany declared war on Russia
    Austria-Hungary had declared war on Serbia. Germany and Austria had an alliance. Germany knew Russia would go to defend Serbia since they had an alliance.
  • Great Britain puts a blockade on Germany

    Great Britain puts a blockade on Germany
    Great Britain creates a naval blockade to keep things from getting to Germany. The goal was to keep them from getting supplies and food in order to weaken them. The blockade was quite successful as they became low on food. Germany was angered by it and knew they had to come up with something quick before terrible things happened due to the lack of sources of food.

    Germany invaded Belgium and War was declared in many areas
    Britain declared war on Germany and Austria-Hungary. Germany also declared war on France. Germany was trying to go through Belgium to get into France.
  • Lusitania was sank

    Lusitania was sank
    A German U-boat sank this passenger ship killing 128 Americans. The sinking aided in pushing the U.S towards entering the war. The Germans sank other passenger ships as well but they did not all contain Americans.
  • Sussex Pledge

    Germany said they would agree to stop sinking passenger ships if the U.S could get Britain to lift the blockade. However if the U.S could not convince them then they would resume it.
  • Zimmerman Telegram

    British gave the U.S a message from Germany that they intercepted and decoded, The message was to Mexico asking them to be in an alliance with them in exchange for some of the U.S territory that they had lost. This infuriated the U.S, they were not supposed to know and this pushed them more towards joining the war.

    The U.S officially declares war after 3 years of being neutral in the World War.Through the years there were many things that slowly pushed U.S towards entering the war.
  • Second battle of Marne

    Second battle of Marne
    German attacked at a place known as Marne. This was the second time they attempted to take it. In the end the allies pushed back the attack. This battle was one of things that was thought to have turned the odds of the war in the allies favor.

    Albert John Carpenter had experienced a time when they had been under fire for a long period of time. They were under fire all night and almost all day.

    Many prisoners were taken as well as machine guns. In addition to those being taken many American lives were also lost. The Germans attempted a counter attack however they failed.

    Albert Carpenter did not get his gas mask on quick enough. When this happened he had to go to the field hospital and take about 20 pills. He was in the hospital less then a day. He was sick for days after this incident however he was still doing what he was there to do.

    It's been raining a lot and has been for a couple of days. They've been ordered to dig a dugout in order to use more heavy artillery. The heavy artillery helped lower the numbers however they were still unable to advance.

    They had planned to use a lot of French and American artillery. In addition they planned to use about 40 machine guns and a handful trench mortars.

    Germany had went to Campiegne to sign a document known as the armistice. When they signed the document the world war was ended.
