Rollin Jack Grace was born
Grew up around grandparents. Would later have heavy involvement in WW1 and WW2. He was born in Vermont. -
Archduke Franz assasinated.
The Archduke was assassinated by Serbians. He and his wife were shot to death. He was the heir to the Austria-Hungary throne. It was the cause of the Austria-hungary vs. Serbia war. -
Assassination.
Franz and his wife were in the city. Some Serbians shot and assassinated him and his wife. This was the very start of the war. -
Weapons
New advanced weapons are being used in WW1. There is the automatic machine gun for mroe efficient fire power. There is barbed wire for protection. The first time use of airplanes was also in WW1, and so were poison gasses. -
Machines and Transportation.
There were many new ways of transportation in WW1. It was the first war with airplanes used. There were also armored tanks utilized. Planes and tanks were made with weapons and guns attatched. -
Trench Warfare.
In WW1 trench warfare was invented. They dug complex systems of ditches to hide and be protected from the enemy. They were safer from artillery, and protected by barbed wire. -
Animals in War
In WW1 tons of animals were used in war. There were carrier pidgeons for delivering messages. They tried many methods to py like a bird with a camera on it. They went through tons of animals and started having to use circus animals and etc. -
Germany declares "war zone".
They declared it on Great Britian. Nuetral vessels could be targets of a submarine blockade. That included vessels carying simple cargo and goods. Germany really showed as a threat to the Allies. -
Before the war
Before he could serve he had to go through extremely difficult training. It was hard even for the young and fit. It helped better prepare him for what was to come. -
USA declares war on Germany
The USA finally gets involved in the war. After interepting the zimmerman telegram, they realized that Germany really was a threat to the country. -
During war.
During the war Jack served on the Mexican border. It was very dangerous and illegal men set "traps" for him and the men he served with.He had to carry a gun at all times. He was at camp Ferdy. -
Started serving.
Jack Grace started his service in 1914. His unit was the 302nd Calvary regiment. He served in Douglas, Arizona , USA. -
Germany Surrenders
Germany finally surrenders. The German emporer at the time is stopped and they later become a Republic. This results later in the treaty of Versailles. -
War officially ends
The war is officially over due to the Treaty of Versailles. It blamed Germany for the war. It also put them in debt forcing them to pay the war costs. -
Death Toll.
There was a massive death toll everywhere due to WW1. Russia suffered 1,700,000 deaths. Germany suffered 1,000,000. The USA lost 50,300 people, and Great Britain lost 900,000 people. -
Post WW1.
Jack also served as a police officer after WW1. He also later went on to serve in WW2 later in life. He said his police involvment was very dangerous.
