    Germany signed a pact with the Soviet Union in Augest. This pact allowed Germany to attack poland without the fear of Soviet intervention. On september 1st Germany attacked and within just three weeks polands army had been defeated.

Adolf Hitler launched the attack on june 22, 1941, with the use of over three army groups with each containing 3 million soldiers, 150 divisions, and 3 thousand tanks. The massive invasion ultimately failed leaving Germany with a two front war thet they would end up losing.

The battle plan did not go so well for the Germans because they ended up surrendering after running out of fuel, ammo, and manpower. This battle went down in history as one of the bloodiest battles ever.

    This battle was the U.S. invasion a major Japanese island of Iwo Jima. Three U.S. marine divisions landed on this island. Over 100,000 U.S. soldiers were fighting against a mere 20,000 Japanese soldiers. This happened so that bombers could be staged here isntead of having to fly all the way back to the Marianas to refill.

    The last big pacific capaign carried by the U.S. This battle was so devistating that it earned itself the nickename of "the typhoon of steel" because of all of the shells that were used during this battle. The japanese swtiched there defense up to deep land defense instead of coastal defense. In the end over 100,000 civilians died with an equally heavy loss fo the japanese army. Over 2,800 japanese aircrafts were loss while the U.S. only lost 768.

    The day that all the remaining German forces finally surrendered. The U.S. and Britain began celebrating victory in Eurpope, In the meantime cease fires were being signed and more than 18,000 British POW's were released and sent back to Britain. The Russians continued fighting for one more day until finally declaring the end of the war with a broadcast solute from Stalin himself: "The age-long struggle of the slav nations... has ended in victory. Your courage has defeated the Nazis."

    On Augest 6 1945 a U.S. B-29 Bomber dropped the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan. This bomb instantly killed 80,000 people. Three days later, a second bomb was dropped on Negaski killing 40,000. In the following months 100,000 thousand died due to radiation poisoning. These bombings were carried out to force Japan to surrender. It ultimately worked with japan surrendering just 6 days after the bombing of Negaski.
