    Historical Significance- This event was the first invasion in World War II which resulted in other countries to enter the war. Germany wanted to expand their state by invading Poland and thought that no other country would try to stop them. Historical Perspective- If Germany did not invade Poland in the first place; there might not have been a War. This invasion was the breaking point, Britain and France had enough of Germany.

    France and Britan declare war on Germany
    Cause and consequence- As a result of Germany invading Poland, France and Britain declared war on Germany. The invasion was the cause and the effect was the declaring of war by both states. Historical Significance- Britain and France declare war on Germany for the second time in the 20th century. These two powerhouses are not going to let Germany to get away with it.

    Continuity and Change- Germany continues to invade European countries, Denmark and Norway’s are their mew targets. However this time invading theses countries aren’t a cake walk as Poland was, since Britain and France were opposed of Germany. Historical Significance- Germany expands their state by taking two more countries.

    Continuity and Change- Winston Churchill is the new prime minster after Neville Chamberlain. Churchill has a different approach to war; his approach is considered to be better since he has war experience. Historical Prospective- if Churchill was not elected as the next prime minster of Britain than maybe the military would not have succeeded against the Nazi

    Cause and Consequence- As a result of Italy and Germany invading France, the allies are weakened because of a loss of a power horse. Historical Perspective- At the moment of time Germany was all in control, everything was going right for them. They felt undefeatable and the Allies looked weak compared to the Axis

    TheTripartite Pact agreement
    Historical Significance- Germany, Italy and Japan sign an agreement in which they recognize each other and also work together. This new alliance, called the Axis is very strong and intimidating and will be able to fight stronger opponent such as USA or Brita. Historical Perspective- If one of the members from the axis did not sign the Tripartite Pact agreement than it would be difficult to create alliance, since some of the articles included be recognized and being able to assist one another war

    Germany breaks the Non Agression Pact with the Solviet Union
    Turning Point- Historical Significance- This was one of the biggest mistakes Germany ever made, by breaking this agreement they have a new enemy (USSR). Now Germany has to worry about attacks from the east and west rather to just worry about the west. Historical Perspective- if Germany did not break this agreement I believed that they would have put up a bigger fight and maybe have won the war. As a result of battles against USSR, they lost many troops which could have been used against the west

    Attack on Pearl harbour
    Historical Significance- The first time one of USA’s harbors was attacked and the very first involvement of USA. Japan attacked Pearl wrongfully, which resulted in USA declaring war in the future. Ethical dimension- There were 2,500 casualties on both sides including US civilians. The Arizona memorial on the island of Oahu remembers the lost lives from the day of the attack on Pearl.

    Turning Point- Cause and Consequence- As a result of Japan attacking the Pearl Harbor, USA declares war on Japan the following day. USA had finally entered this conflict after following an isolationism policy. Continuity and Change- USA continues to interfere with other international conflicts and have war with other countries, but the change is that now USA does not interfere with European conflicts they interfere with Middle Eastern conflicts. Examples being Iraq, Iran and Afghanistan.

    Japanese Canadian internment
    Historical perspective- Japanese Canadians were being mistreated all over Canada and being considered as enemy Aliens. As a result of the attack on Pearl Harbor, Canada also declared war on Japan, after this declaration the federal government of Canada enforced curfews and interrogations to Japanese Canadians. Continuity and change- This was the second time Canada was at war and the second time it mistreated enemy aliens, the only difference was the targets.
  • Battle of Stalingrad

    Battle of Stalingrad
    Historical significance-This battle is known as one of the bloodiest battles in history. After breaking the non aggression Germany attacked Stalingrad and lost the battle, the Soviet Union trapped the Germany army, forcing them to surrender. Over a million soldiers took part of this battle which lasted a little more than 5 months. Ethical dimension- both sides received a severe amount of casualties. The axis suffered 750,000 casualties and the USSR suffered almost 500,000 casualties.

    Historical perspective- This battle lowered the self-esteem of troops and created doubt in the German minds. The first battle was fairly close, but the second battle was domination and was a decisive victory for the allies. Continuity and Change-This was the second battle in the same year at El Alamein, similar weapons and number of people were involved. However the tactics used in war were very different, since the allies won decisively in the second battle and had trouble in the first battle

    Invastion of Silcily
    Historical significant- This invasion was significant to Canada, as a dominion of Great Britain it played a major role in forcing Italy to surrender. As a result of this war Italy surrendered from WWII and the axis was weakened and now only two countries were a part of this alliance. Ethical dimension- 26,000 Canadian troops were a part of this conquest, 562 soldiers died and nearly 2,000 soldiers were wounded.

    Cause and Consequence- As a result of Italy being invaded, it surrendered from war the following fall. The Italians were the weakest in the Axis and fell first, the fascist government in Italy finally falls. Historical perspective- The allies gained a whole bunch of confidence and a sign of relief for having one less enemy. The axis was in complete shock and could not believe that the fascist government in Italy fell; Hitler also feared that his government in Germany might fall next
  • Tehran Conference

    Tehran Conference
    Historical Significance- the 3 major leaders of the allies participated in a conference in Tehran in which they discussed strategies against Germany and the Axis. They decided to open a second font against Germany in May 1 1945. Historical Perspective- if this conference had not taken place than it would be difficult to come up with strategies against Germany. As a result of cooperating Winston Churchill Franklin D. Roosevelt and Joseph Stalin put their brains together to create a master plan
  • D-Day

    D-Day
    Turning Point- Historical significance- is known as the largest seaborne invasion in history which allowed to reoccupying German occupied Western Europe. This invasion allowed France to liberate since it was under German control. Historical Perspective- if this invasion had not taken place than maybe France would still be under German control and it might be difficult for the Allies to win the war. By loosing France Germany was in big trouble.

    Historical Perspective- France is extremely happy that they are finally liberated, since they were previously invaded by Germany and occupied by them. Now they are able to get their revenge on Germany. Cause and consequence- As a result of Germany invading France and than losing control in a few years, the French have a grudge against the Germany. They are not going to hold back anymore and try their best to participate in battles against Germany.

    Historical Significance- Hitler committing suicide was a major event in the Second World War, since he was the biggest political figure in the war. His death means that the fascist government of Germany has fallen and the Nazi are leaderless. Historical perspective- Hitler knew that his defeat was near and that the Russians were coming in close, also his beloved wife committed suicide the same day, so he had little choice. He did not want to be humiliated

    Victory in Europe day
    Historical Significance- World war II was officially over, the Nazi surrendered which ended this brutal 6 year war. Resulting in an ally victory, this day is well celebrated in Britain, Russia and the United States. Continuity and Change- Once again Germany played a major role in war and was defeated for the second time in the 20th century. The only difference was that while losing the war the Nazi killed 11 million people and 6 million were Jewish

    Atomic Bombing in Japan
    Ethical Dimension- As a result of the bombing on Hiroshima and Nagasaki there were approximately over 200,000 casualties, mostly civilians. The ones who survived had been seriously wounded and had mental disabilities. Historical Perspective- USA did an unmoral attack on Japan; they killed innocent civilians and children. This bombing was unnecessary; instead of using an atomic bomb they could have used some other time which was less damaging. They could also thrown it closer to a military base.
