    American army needed more soldiers so they created a force of African Americans and Puerto Rican Americans as another military unit. They weren't seen as normal soldiers per say. They were given the smaller jobs such as mopping, cooking, and other cleaning tasks. Soon they were shipped off to French soldiers for training.
