    Started in August of 1914 was fought between Russian and German, Is notable for being the first fought in the war and was Fought on the eastern front. Russian army was under command of grand duke Nicholas went to aid the french soldiers who was attacked by the German even though they predicted that the Russian were going to win because they were larger and powerful the Germans actually resigned victory. The German took 92,000 prisoners and destroyed half or Russians 2nd army

    Lasted 8 months through 1915-1916
    Launched by the combined British, french, Indian, new Zealand, Australia and Canadian forces to knock out those in the Turkish ottoman that sided with Germany. The plan aimed to force the Turkish ottoman empire to surrender and the plan failed in part due to the outdated allies fleet and the ottoman empire sunk many of the ships by their cannons and mines.

    They went overseas on German ships and the Germans Sabotaged the ship and it took the government a couple months to get the ship fixed and things like that. After the ship was fixed thy went their way from New York to France after being overseas for 4 days the ship broke down because the boiler room couldn't keep up steam so they turned around and went back to New York to there old camp ground and was there for a couple weeks.

Scheers plan was to destroy Beatty’s force before Jellicoe’s arrived. It was thwarted with the British were alerted by their Code breakers

They were faces with German defenses that were laid out for months. More than one million men from all sides were killed, wounded or captured.

    They gained notoriety not only for many casualties but also the widespread mud, this battle was fought along the British line in Ypres which was a small town. Douglas Haig longed for a British offensive in Flanders after a warning that a German blockade would cripple the British war efforts. He wanted to get Belgian coast and destroy German submarines stationed there.

    The five major attacks and battles that Arnold was engaged in took three months in the trenches. one of them the Germans tried to brake through and end the war. Arnold and his men held the 3rd line with the french in front of them. They lost a lot of good men and when the attack started all men were out in the front. Arnold was wounded, shell exploded in front of him and hit him in his back. Another attack they lost a lot of men to machine guns. overall they lost a lot of men on their side

    The national guard was mobilized through all of the U.S and they were sent to the Mexican border for nine or ten months, Arnold said that was one of the most frustrating times of his life and that it was a political mess and there was really nothing for them to do. The weather was hot, there were lots of bugs, they had camera's on them all the time and he said the food was terrible they only had 19 cents a day and it was a strict diet, Beans, Mac and cheese, Salmon.

    Arnold had a brother named Howard and when Arnold was on requiting duty his brother wanted to join but he couldn't pass the physical and he had a rupture, So he went to the hospital and had his rupture done and when he went back home Arnold's company was full So he enlisted into a different company and went to France and when Howard got into the trenches Arnold managed to help him get back into the company with Arnold and was in the war with Arnold.
