Royal Navy Career
He put his teaching career on hold to join the Royal Navy, he served during WW II. After he completed his 5 years of service, he returned to his teaching career and attempted to publish his first novel. -
Lord of the Flies
Wrote in 1953, Lord of the Flies was Golding's first novel was begun unsuccessfully selling fewer that three thousand copies. However soon after going out of print the novel became a best-seller. The book tells the story of a group of English boys who are stranded on a uninhabited island and their attempt to govern themselves. -
