    Educational Timeline

This timeline gives a description of why 5 events in educational history are so important to the development of education today
  • Ye Olde Deluder Satan

    Ye Olde Deluder Satan
Though this law was developed long ago it shows some of the first glimpses of what schools and school systems look like today. Taking schooling out of the household and requiring towns to pay for a teacher through taxes is quite simply the type of public school system we have today. It is essentially the building block law that supports the structure of education we have today and for this reason it belongs in such a timeline as this one.
  • Origination of Public High School

    Origination of Public High School
Elementary schools were already developed, but as industry grew greater education was needed and public high schools filled this need. These schools gave citizens the skills to work in new industrial jobs. This contribution to the industrial revolution is the reason the development of public high schools is so important to the history of education in our country.
  • Brown vs. Board of Education

    Brown vs. Board of Education
This court case changed education forever for people of color. It brought people of all types together inside the classroom. Though the law did not solve all racial education problems it was the building block to further equality in schools. This case is very well known and popular and rightfully so. The impact this case had on education for people of color is reason this case makes the cut for this timeline.
  • PL 94-142 IDEA

    PL 94-142 IDEA
For children with disabilities no law regarding education may be more influential than PL 94-142. This law further created equality among all school aged children and opened the door to possibilities people with disabilities never had before. Making sure these students had a free and appropriate education meant that they could not be left behind and gave students chances they had never had before. For these reasons IDEA is essential in any educational timeline.
  • ARRA

    ARRA
In recent history the American recovery and reinvestment act released some of the largest amount of dollars in history to education in the United States. This allowed many schools that were under achieving to turn around and get back on the right track. This was monumental in the idea of recent history and gave many schools a fresh start and many students a positive change in their achievement. For these reasons the ARRA rounds out the fifth spot in this educational timeline.
