  • Geneva Convention

    Geneva Convention
    It started of in 1859 when the Swiss business man Henry Dunant visited an injured soldier. He was shocked by the lack of facilities, personnel, and medical aid available to help these soldiers. This inspired him to write a book about a treaty recognizing the neutrality of the agency and allowing it to provide aid in a war zone. After this the red cross organization was established. On August 22nd 1864, the first convention was signed to cover the wounded and sick on the battlefield
  • Hague Convention of 1899

    The first time the Hague convention was proposed, was on august 22nd 1898. It got brought by Nicholas II. The convention was signed on July 29th 1899. The conference discussed lots of points including: What ammunition is allowed to be used, protection of marked hospital ships etc.
  • Hague Convention of 1907

    Hague Convention of 1907
    The Second Hague Conference, in 1907, resulted in conventions containing only few major advancements from the 1899 Convention. The conference was originally supposed to be in the year of 1904 but it got postponed due to the war of Russia and Japan. The conference regulated the collection of debts, rules of war, and the rights and obligations of neutrals.

    WW1
    In WW1 lots of rules were violated. The biggest and worst one was poison or poisoned weapons. In the picture above, a British trench is being represented after one of Germany's deadly gas attacks.
  • Geneva Protocol

    The Geneva Protocol was signed on 17 June 1925 and entered into force on 8 February 1928. The main reason why it got signed was because of the use in WW1 and people were fearing terrible aftereffects for the future
  • United Nations Charter

    The Charter of the United Nations (also known as the UN Charter) of 1945 is the foundational treaty of the United Nations, an intergovernmental organization. It was signed at the San Francisco War Memorial and Performing Arts Center , United States, on 26 June 1945, by 50 of the 51 original member countries. This is an organization that works together with the 5 most powerful country's in the world
  • Hague Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict

    The Hague Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict is the first international treaty that focuses exclusively on the protection of cultural property in armed conflict. It was signed at The Hague, Netherlands on 14 May 1954 and entered into force on 7 August 1956. In June 2017, it has been signed by 128 states.
  • Protocol II

    Protocol II covers protection of victims of non-international armed conflicts. This was made for better for victims of conflicts, that are not international. Its important because this gives governments certain rules that they have to follow even if its in their own country
  • Ottawa Treaty

    Ottawa Treaty
    The Ottawa Treaty is known Mine Ban Treaty. During this Convention Anti-personal Mines were banned. Around 162 states agreed and signed this convention. The surprising thing is that Russia and USA both did not agree and did not sign this Convention.
  • Convention of Cluster Munition

    Convention of Cluster Munition
    This convention is about prohibiting Cluster bombs. Over 100 states have agreed to never use cluster munitions, to not develop, produce, otherwise acquire, stockpile, retain or transfer to anyone, directly or indirectly, cluster munitions and to not assist, encourage or induce anyone to engage in any activity prohibited to a State Party under this Convention. Its interesting that Russia, USA and China did all not agree to this convention.
