    Kennedy's increase of military advisers in Vietnam
    The communist's Viet-Cong were getting stronger so Kennedy started to increase military power. By the assassination in 1963 there were already 16,000 U.S. soldiers in South Vietnam. This effected the people, because there was a higher chance of themselves being drafted to war, Kennedy starts to realize the importance of joining the war, and U.S. casualties were rising.
  • Gulf of Tonkin Resolution

    Gulf of Tonkin Resolution
    It authorized President Johnson to take any measures he believed were necessary to maintain international peace and security in southeast Asia. A change is that Johnson gets more control, Johnson is trying to make the war not extremely violent and gory, and it was a new resolution for the Vietnam War.

    Operation Rolling Thunder

    The U.S. responded to the Gulf of Tonkin by bombing North Vietnam and specifically the Ho Chi Minh trail. The trail ran from North Vietnam to South Vietnam through Laos and Cambodia. It was used to get supplies to the Viet-Kong. This stayed the same because the power of the war stayed the same, the Viet-Kong had lots of power and help, and the bombing continued.

    The Tet Offensive was an attack ran by the Viet-Cong on 100 cities in South Vietnam. The purpose of this was to push the U.S. out of the war. This was a big turning point in the war. There is a change because the U.S. starts to get into some real war troubles, the U.S. is being pushed out, and Viet-Cong was becoming more of a threat.
  • My Lai Massacre

    My Lai Massacre
    At the My Lai Massacre 500 unarmed villagers were murdered. Hugh Thompson, a helicopter pilot, ended the massacre. This is a change because the U.S. started to become more violent, villagers in Vietnam were worried for there lives, and that is when the U.S. soldiers started to be known as baby killers.

    Election of 1968
    The Republican nominee was Richard Nixon and the Democratic nominee was Hubert Humphrey. Nixon won and promised to restore "law and order". The great issue of this election was the Vietnam War. It stayed the same, the Vietnam War was still going on, people were confident in the war, and drafting wasn't a problem yet.

    Kent State Massacre
    The Kent State Massacre started as an anti-war protest, but ended with 4 students dead, 11 more wounded, and the cause of the students being wounded and/or killed was the National Guardsmen. This effected how the people viewed the U.S. soldiers, it created more caos, and it made people more upset and mad.

    Expansion into Laos and Cambodia
    The expansion of Laos and Cambodia was one of the three approaches Nixon took to the Vietnam War. It was an expansion of conflict called the "secret war". It was a different way to go about war, the U.S. expanded into Laos and Cambodia, and Nixon gives the speech "Peace with Honor".

    Pentagon Papers
    Daniel Ellsberg, a former defense analyst, leaked government documents about American war efforts during Johnson's administration to New York Times. The documents were about the intentions of the U.S. in Vietnam during the mid 1960's. One said that the primary reason for fighting in Vietnam was not to eliminate communism, but to avoid a humiliating defeat. The effects of this was the the people didn't trust the government, people were getting upset, and protesting would soon start.

    26th Amendment Ratification
    The 26th Amendment made people 18 and older able to vote. Life mostly stayed the same for young men, like 18 years, were sent to war, protesting still occurred, and people were still finding ways to get out of going to war.

    This officially ended the Vietnam War. The agreement was titled Ending the War and Restoring Peace in Vietnam, and it was a peace treaty. It effected the soldiers, because when they came home they were looked at with disguised, soldiers would stop dying, and fear in the U.S. started to diminish.

    At the Fall of Saigon the Americans abandons its embassy, after the Americans are out of the way the Southern Vietnamese attempt to flee, and the the Northern Vietnamese attack the Presidential Palace. There was a change because the U.S. abandons its embassy, the Vietnam president was attacked, and Southern Vietnam was getting pushed out and fleeing.
