In 1787 a two party system was developed. The federalist party who was founded by the rich and well educated people. They were pro business. -
Anti-Federalist party
The anti-federalist were farmers and small business people; could relate more to the common man. Founded by Thomas Jefferson -
Democratic-Republicans
Also known as the Jeffersonian republicans they were in favor of more state government and much less central government. -
Jacksonian Democrats
Opposed the Whig party which supported a strong central government. Andrew Jackson founded this party in opposition of the whig party and he advocated for more rights for the common man. One major issue was what should be done about the US bank system. -
The party of Lincoln
Came to power under president Lincoln. This party was most greatly known because during this time slavery was abolished. This party is known as Lincoln's party because it was not used after his term was over. -
Roosevelt Democrats
This party was majorly for the people. He created many programs to help raise the the people in the US out of the great depression. He gave jobs to most, and when WWII came it also helped. -
Modern Republicans
Favored strong military and likes to not pay taxes. Does not support the progressive taxation -
Modern Democrats
Favor a minimum wage and progressive taxation. Decrease military spending. Supports abortion. Wants people to be a united community and socially responsible
