    Immigration From 1880 to 1920, immigration in the United States peaked, drawing hordes of Irish and German laborers to the US, as well as Italians, Slovaks, Greeks and so on. With this, some city neighborhoods were divided by ethnicity.

    Imperialism Imperialism was the idea of establishing an American empire or influence worldwide. This involved several conflicts, including the Spanish-American war, wherein America took control of a few islands like Guam and Puerto Rico.

    USS Maine The USS Maine was a battleship left in the Havana harbor in Cuba during the Cuban revolution. The ship exploded and public belief swayed to blame the Spanish. The Spanish-American war ensued shortly after.

    Lusitania The Lusitania was a passenger ship from New York headed towards Europe. When passing Ireland, a German U-Boat shot the boat with a torpedo under the impression that the boat was carrying munitions to Allied forces. Aboard the ship, 114 Americans had died. This pushed America further towards the brink of war.

    Zimmerman Telegram The Zimmerman Telegram was a telegram sent to Mexico from Germany during WWI. Germany promised to return the land to Mexico that they had lost in the Mexican-American war, and, in return, Mexico would need to help with the German war effort. Wilson still hesitated to enter the Great War.

    Harlem Renaissance The Harlem Renaissance was the birth of African-American culture being recognized and respected in the US. Black authors became famous for their works, and black music became popular, like blues and jazz.

    Market Crash Black Tuesday was the biggest and most catastrophic market crash in US history. Unemployment quickly skyrocketed, and money suddenly became scarce with the panic. Middle class became poor, and hope was lost. It was only until WWII when production picked up and jobs became available that the economy healed itself.

    Containment Containment was a policy during the Cold War to control Communism. The idea was not to completely eradicate Communism, but to limit it to the Soviet Union. The idea of Containment also led the US into war in Vietnam.

    Vietnam War The Vietnam War was waged by the United States to choke the spread of Communism across Asia. The war ultimately failed, and America suffered massive casualties. The war was supported by the American population at the start, but by the end, most of the nation war completely against the war in Vietnam. The war ended in April of 1975.

    FeminismThe feminism movement spanned through the 1960's up to the 1970's. The idea of female equality was still relatively new, but attracted a large following. The movement earned more opportunities for females.

Amongst Civil Rights movements for black-Americans, there were women, Native-Americans, and LGBT gatherings asking for the same equal rights. Police brutality against black-Americans, as well as riots in various parts of the nation occurred.

    USSR In 1991, the Communist USSR fell after a long Cold War with the United States. Reagan and Gorbachev had extensive meetings regarding Russia.

In an age riddled with school violence, two young shooters killed 12 students and a teacher from their school. Many blamed this tragedy on technology and the internet's effect on young people.

    Globalization Globalization is the idea that one nation can hold dominion over the rest of the world's nation, much like the United States in its current form. The principle has carried out since WWII and will probably continue until another superpower emerges above the US.
