    After Japan failed to consent with the ultimatum that they were presented, America proceeded to bomb Hiroshima on August 6, 1945 resulting in 70,000 deaths. Three days later, Nagasaki was bombed as well, yielding 40,000 more deaths. On August 14, 1945, Japan finally surrendered.

    The Cold War was the result of military and political tension following World War II. It was fought between the powers in the Western Bloc (the United States, its NATO allies and others) and powers in the Eastern Bloc (the Soviet Union and its allies in the Warsaw Pact).
    Historians have not fully agreed on the dates, but the mostly commonly used are 1947–1991.

It ended on 30 April 1975.
