    led by president Andrew Jackson, wanted greater right for the common man, opposed any sign of aristocracy

    modern Democracy rose around the 1830's with the election of Andrew Jackson. since Roosevelt new Deal of the 1930's it has favored greater government intervention in the economy and to oppose government intervention in the private non-economic affairs of citizens.
