  • Kamehmeha's Birth

    Kamehmeha's Birth
    Kamehameha was born in 1758 in the same year Halley's comet made an appearance in the Hawaiian skies. Kamehameha was born in Paiea in the big island There was a legend that a Kahuna said that the man who moves the 7,000 pound naha stone will become the greatest king in Hawaii. When Kamehameha was 14 he moved the rock lifted it up and flipped it over. Kamehameha means the " the lonely one".

    The first time foreigners had contact with the Hawaii. Population number is at 500,000.
  • Captain Cook Arrives At Hawaiians Islands

    Captain Cook Arrives At Hawaiians Islands
    Captain Cook was a British explorer, navigator and cartographer. Captain Cook arrived at the islands in 1778 and was mistakenly thought to be the god Lono. This misuderstanding made a big impact. They were treated as royalty and were given lots of food for they're journey back. After a while there was a storm and captain cook had to come back to Hawaii to make repairs where he was killed.

    Kamehameha even before birth was destined to be the great ruler of Hawaii. His accomplishments made Hawaii united and wealthy. Kamehameha had a genius mind and was a great ruler.
  • Training Kamehameha's Warriors

    Training Kamehameha's Warriors
    Isaac Davis and Jhon Young were both british advisers of Kamehameha. This was a huge advantage for Kamehameha because even though the enemy had the same technology, Isaac Davis and Jhon Young made Kamehameha's warriors get more training with the weapons. Isaac Davis and Jhon Young were both captured. THey were forced to be trained. They were forced because either they help Kamehameha or they die.

    George Vancouver
    George Vancouver was like a friend to Kamehameha. He advised Kamehameha on ruling his kingdom and dealing with foriengners. George Vancouver was origanally a English officer of the British Royal Navy. When he first came to Hawaii he gave cattle, sheep, grapevines, orange and almond trees, as gifts. He also told Kamehameha to live in peace rather than in war with locals and foriegners. George Vancouver died on May 10, 1798

    Ka'ahumanu's Reign

    Ka'ahumanu was kuhina nui when Kamehameha died and she ruled along side Liholiho by force. She made Liholiho let her rule and soon she had more power than Liholiho. She didn't like kapu and kept on breaking the rules. She was supposed to get punished by the gods but she didn't therefore she ended kapu.This made her become way more powerful than Liholiho.
  • Battle of Nu'uanu

    Battle of Nu'uanu
    The battle of nu'uanu was Kamehameha's final battle in the conquest to unite the island chain. When Kamehameha first made land on Oahu the Oahuans lured Kamehameha and his forces into a mountain side where they were trapped and shot at with cannons. Soon Kamehameha bought his cannons to the core of the battle and killed alot of the enemies. Soon Kamehameha's forces closed in on the enemy on to a cliff side where the rest of the enemies got killed.

    Kamehameha Makes a Agreement with Kaumualiʻi
    Kamehameha made a agreement with Kaumuali'i so Kamehameha could get what he wanted peacefully. Kauai and Ni'ihau were the last islands for Kamehameha to conquer. When Kamehameha tried to fight again for Kauai for the second time his men got sick with a disease. This made Kamehameha do the agreement. After the agreement Kamehameha reached his goal of becoming Ali'i of all the islands.

    Sandalwood Trade
    Sandalwood trade became a highly exported item in Hawaii. Most of the people who wanted it were Chinese who were willing to get it for high prices. Scince sandalwood was so highly priced every one in Hawaii left there original jobs and went to go cut it. Kamehameha said this would lead to a shortage of trees so he put a kapu on young trees to protect them. This way Kamehameha could make Hawaii rich for a longtime without running out of sandalwood.

    Liholiho's Reign

    Liholiho's reign was very very short due to the arrival of europeans during his arrival. Even though it was short it was very important because of events like the arrival of missionaries, Kapu ending and whaling as a economic thing. Liholiho died when he went to europe with his wife and caught a disease and died. He then got replaced by his younger brother and Ka'ahumanu got replaced by Kuhina Nui. Liholiho's will always be remebered in hawaiian history.

    After Kamehameha died Liholiho and Ka'ahumanu took his place. Ka'ahumanu which was Kamehameha's favorite wife didn't like kapu since it was unfair to girls.That is when she requested Liholiho to end the kapu but Liholiho said no. This happened various times until Ka'ahumanu and some other women went into Vancouver's ship and ate with the men at the same time.

    Kapu Ends Part 2
    After that the gods never punished the men or the women and this made Ka'ahumanu not believe in the gods either. Then a high chief of Hawaii gets baptized without getting harmed. After that after persuading Ka'ahumanu finally got Liholiho to eat with her and she announced kapu was over. After arguing for a while Liholiho burned the pictures and images of the gods. Then a revolt started against the announcement but they quickly lost. Kapu has ended.

    Whaling Industry

    The whaling industry happened during Liholiho's reign and was the main source of income at the time. Some events led to whaling more uneeded things like discoveries and disasters. One is the discovery of oil in the ground itself which was a more reliable resource. Another thing is whales becoming more difficult to find which led to less supply. Then the final blow was when 39 out of 40 ships got destroyed carrying whales by ice.

    Hawaii was lost and confused from not having a religion or kapu to follow. But coincidencentually it was the same time missionaries were sent out to hawaii from Europe. From this correct timing everyone would start following Christianity from the lack of religion. They started making schools, churches and made the Hawaiians read the bibile. This was a good thing because now they can write down things by learning english.

    The first missionaries arrived on March 30, 1820 to Hawaii this would change Hawaii forever. The missionaries came to Hawaii in the right time when Liholiho ended kapu. This meant they would introduce there new religion much easier. The missionaries took a half year journey from Boston but then they were scared that they would be rejected. When they got there people accepted the religion more easier then excpected the missionsaries also built houses, churches and schools.

    The population of native Hawaiians has now plumeted to 80% of its own population, by diseases and viruses spread from foriegners coming from a round the world.

    Before Europeans came to Hawaii the people believed that the land actually belonged to the gods land and the chiefs were supposed to mange them. Whenever People would live there they would have to give some of there produce to there chief. Europeans thought that each Hawaiian should be able to buy land and the law actually passed. The Europeans start buying land because they were the only ones that can afford the land. Then now the people who were living on land are getting trtansfered.

    The people who started the Hawaii sugar cane mills were actually New Englanders who bought land. There was three of them named Peter Brinsmade, William Ladd, William Hooper. They first got land but then decidied to make a sugar cane industry. The main problems were that people didn't want to work there because they would get payed less for doing more work. Thats why they got people fom China to come over so they can work in the fields. After a bit everything was going well.

    Asian Immigrants Came To Hawaii
    Around 1852 Asian immigrants came to Hawaii to work on the plantations. They had the option of living in Hawaii or going back to there homeland but most of them chose to stay.

    Prince Albert died at the age of 4 from meningitis.

    Native Hawaiians are almost fully wiped out as even more foriegners are settling in. The Native Hawaiians barely survived.
