    Kamehameha was the greatest ruler of Hawaii. He conquered all the islands made peace throughout the islands and accepted foreigners.In the last seven years he started spending most of his time in the settlement at Kailua on the Cona coast of the Big Isaland. Out of everything and all the region that was on the islands from the foreigners he held on firmly to the old Hawaiian Kapu and gods. The Hawaiians decided to honor and respect him by making him a chant making him a new god.

  • Meeting Captain James Cook

    Meeting Captain James Cook
    Captain Cook and his men found Hawaii in January 18, 1778. When they arrived at one of the islands they were treated like a god or cheif and met KingK. He and his men needed food so they gave iron nails to the Hawaiians for food and then a thriving trade was developed. But when he came back the third time he was murdered by the Hawaiians but some of the crew were let free but the Hawaiians robbed the ships of iron, food, and gunpowder. And the gunpowder will make a change in Hawaiian history
  • Kalaniópu's death

    He was born 1729 as the son of Kalaninuiamamao and died April 1782. He was cheif at the time Captaian Cook arrive at the Hawaiian islands. After Cook anchored at Kealakekua bay to show he was peaceful he exchanged gifts with Cook. When Cook came back on Febuary for ship repairs the greeting was not so nice resulting in Cooks death and his crew escaping. Whe he was succeeded by his son Kiwala'o and his nephew Kamehameha the islands were divided into three even partsfor the cheifs.

    After Kalaniópuú's the the king was his son KIwaló while Kamehameha gained a more religious position. Kamehameha earned his guardianship by sacrificing an ali'i to the war god. After Kamehameha did this he then had both the spirit and the gaurdianship of the war god. To have such power would be an amazing thing and that is what Kamehameha had done before the battle of Nuuhau. The war god gave Kamehameha's men the spirit and strength to win te battle of Nuuhau.

    The fair American that was captured was Isaac Young and he was the only survivor. Basically the Fair American was a ship with a nine-teen year old who was inexperianced. Either the crew of the Fair American wanted revenge or Kame'
    'eiamoku wanted it but there was a battle between Kame'eiamoku and Fair Amercian had a brawl. In the end all except John Young died and was spared. John Young was taken to Kamehameha where they made a deal that John would teach his men to use guns for his life.

    The battle of Nuuanu was the boodiest battle of Hawaiian history and sometimes called the leaping mullet. The forces job of Oahu was to lure Kamehamea's men into a trap. They succeded but not for long because he Kamehamehaset out another group of his men. They were forced back to the mountain of Nuuanu where they made their last stand. Some of the warriors of Oahu were forced off the mountain or just suicided and then investegators then found more than 200 skulls at the base of Nuuanu.

    Kamehameha planned two attacks on Kauaiand both of the attacks failed. The first time they tried to capture Hawaii midchannel there was a storm and more than 5 canoes sunk. The second time there was a major disease and about 300 of his men died. However Kamehameha gained control of tall the islandes and this is how. Kamuali'i surrendered so that there would be no more blood shed between both sides.

    Kamuali'i allowed a Russian medic to build a fort named Fortress Elizabeth in honor of the empress of Russia at the time.

    Kamuali'i surrendered peacefully to Kamehameha so there would be no more bloodshed and with that Kamehameha fufilled his destiny.

    The rule of Ka'ahumanu as Kuhina Nui

    The rule of Ka'ahumanu as Kuhina Nui was pretty long and she was right for the title and rule. She was originally just a wife of Kamehameha the first and was his favorite. However when King K died she said that shE would get half of the govermant along with Liholiho or something like that. She was there when Kamehameha the third agreed with the US and made a treaty. A church was built after her and when she died she held the new testamet in Hawaiian laguage given to her by the Missionaries.

    The reign of Liholiho

    Liholiho was the King after Kamehameha the first died of ilness. He later on died in Boston or London of ilness as well. He took over as the king after his father died.

    The Kapu sytem ended after King K died at a bay however I seem to have forgottten what bay he died on. Anyways he died one year ONE YEAR before the missionaries arrived and changed the Hawaiians religion. Liholiho which was his son welcomed the missionaries to the islands. However the missionaries were not the one to destroy the Kapu it was Liholiho and Ka'ahumanu. At first Liholiho wanted something to remember his father by. But Ka'ahumanu persuaded him to do it by making him sit by women.

    I don't really remember but I think the missionaries landed on Hawaii in 1820. The missionaries purpose of going to Hawaii was wthat the beleived that the Hawaiians beleifs were only myths. So they thought that if they mad it to the real religion in time they would be forgiven by god. One of the Hawaiians actually traveled to America and studied on christianity. He went back dto Hawaii to tell them of his findings and that the beleifs of the Hawaiian gods weren't real.

    The Hawaiians who lived on Hawaii didn't know how valuble the whales were until the whalers came. When the missionaries came a lot of things changed in the islands and the trading. Until the missionaries and traders from other places came in 1830 whaling wasn't really invented as trading. When whaling started it replaced the sandlewood trade and just like the sandleood it was replaced by sugar cane production.

    The great Mahele was a rule that the Hawaiians were not happy about. It was a rule that was made when the kings and cheifs were being pressured by the Hawaiians and foreigners fought over land. So they made the rule where if the Hawaiians couldnt pay taxes they lose the land.

    The sandalwood trees were the most important thing to the foreigners. They started to trade anything to get the sandalwood from the Hawaiians. But because of the foreigners and the Hawaiians the sandalwood trees were about to run out. Until Kamehameha put a Kapu on the small sandalwood trees. He put it on the young trees because they wanted the goods from the foreigners still.
