    The Transcontinental Railroad was completed. The creation of this railroad allowed for a passage from the eastern shores of the US to the western shores boardering the Pacific Ocean. The railroad was being built simultaneously starting on both sides of the US and was connected in Utah in 1869

    Custers Last Stand
    General Custer discovered what he thought was a smsall indian village on the banks of the Little Big Horn River. He ordered his men to attack and was unaware that it was the main sioux and cheyenne encampmnent. the entire seventh cavalry was massacred within hours.

    Rush of Immigrants
    Between the years of 1880-1920, immigration in the US reached a peak. As more people started to move to the US, the already diverse country became even more of a "mixing pot" with the introduction of new languages and new religions.

    Prevented Chinese immigrants to enter the country and besome citizens due to overflow of immigrants.

    Panama Canal
    In 1914, at the cost of $345 million, the Panama Canal was open for business. Allowing for quicker trips from east to west.

    Wilson adressed congrss on April 2,1917 with a list of offences carried out by Germany. four days later the US declared war on germany.

    The Selective Service act was the first US draft. it allowed for the president to draft citizens into the military to fight in the First World War
  • Treaty of Versailles

    Treaty of Versailles
    The Treaty of Versailles ended the war between Germany and the allied powers. It was signed five years after the assissination of Franz Ferdinand which was one of the main causes for the war.
  • Bonus Certificates

    Veterans of WW1 were given redeemable certificates that were worth $1,000 each and could be used in 1925. many veterans used them during the great depression because they had little or no money.

    After World War One, the US had the larget economy in the world. As the US became even more prosperous after each day, people began to believe that poverty in their homeland would be no more. "Black Tuesday" the stock market crashed and it sparked many other events that would lead the US into an economic crisis.

    During the 1930's, Hoover recieved a lot of negative attention because of the depression the country had fallen into. Hoover happened to be president during one of the worst times in US history. He wasnt entirely at fault for the depression, but the people of the US desperatley searched for someone to blame.

    Japan and China find each other in a skirnish at the Marco Polo Bridge just outside of Beijing. This event lead to the invasion of china. Japan severly overpowerd china and leveled chinese cities with air raids.

    The attack on Pearl Harbor was a surprise military attack. it was a aerial raid on the ships and airfields that were stationed there. the attck eventually lead to the US entry into the war in Europe and the Pacific

    The Cold War was a state of political and military tensions between numerous countries. The two main countries involved were the US and the Soviet Union. During this war, there were no direct military campaigns. Although there was no official start and end date, the war lasted about 45 years.

    The Red Scare happened after the second world war. It was known throughout the US public as "McCarthyism"It was a very paranoid time for the citizens with the constant fear of communist espionage.

    The Tonkin Gulf resolution gave the president a "Blank Check" which could be used to wage war on the North Viatnamese whenever he saw fit.

    Ronald Reagan introduced an idea to attempt to fix the current economic mess in the US. He bragged undue tax burden and an increase in social spending. Reaganomics was what the population came to know it by. to some, it helped the rich rather than the poor.

    The Berlin Wall was a barrier constructed by the German Democratic Republic starting on 13 August 1961, that completely cut off West Berlin from surrounding East Germany and from East Berlin.

    Desert Storm was one of the first major foriegn military events that the US took part in. Prior to the invasion, we aided the Iraq military with their conflicts regarding Iran. Thanks to the US, Sadaam Hussein was in control of the fourth largest army in the world and we were forced to responf to his invasion of kuwait.
