Rose Schneiderman
Rose Schneiderman was a socialist and a union supporter. She gave a speech at the Metropolitan Opera House on April 2, 1911. She served as the president of the Women's Trade Union League. She also used the fire to help workers understand that they had to do something about the working conditions. -

Rose Freedman
Rose Freedman was one of the survivors of the Shirtwaist Factory. It was two days before her 18th birthday when the factory went up in flames. She died at age 107. After the fire she started to work and support for many different unions. -
The fire
The fire on March 25 1911 was a big deal for working conditions. It was maybe caused by an unextinguished cigarette or could have been caused by the motors of the sewing machines. 123 women and 23 men died in the fire. The owners of the factory survived, but were charged with second degree manslaughter. -
International Ladies Garment Workers Union
The International Ladies Garment Workers Union pushed really hard for better working conditions because the group had lost some of its members. Their pushing for better working conditions helped because sometime after the fire New York initiated investigations of the factories. -
American Society of Safety Engineers
The American Society of Safety Engineers was created in October 14th 1911 because of the triangle shirtwaist fire. The ASSE helps prevent worker fatalities.
