  • Period: 1333 to 1396

    The Black Death

    The Black Death was a tragic pandemic that spread throughout Asia and Europe. Caused by the bacteria Yersinia Pestis from fleas on rodents to humans. It is estimated the plague killed millions of people. Afterwards, people began to question the teachings of the Church. People started to move farther away or even closer. Also, feudalism fell, workers (serfs) start demanding more money from their lords because there’s less people to do the work and weird middle class began to from.

    The Printing Press

    Johannes Gutenberg invented a movable type using metal letters on a printing press in 1440. Before this invention, printing had been a long and laborious task. And with the printing press, so many books were being made, meaning they were cheaper and more accessible to everybody. The printing press helped spread information and education all throughout the world.

    Ponce de Leon

    After hearing there was gold being found in Puerto Rico, Juan Ponce de Leon decided to settled there. He founded Caparra, the colonies oldest settlement and was named governor,which inspired him to then travel more to claim more land.

    Nicolaus Copernicus

    Expressed the idea that the Earth orbits the Sun and spins on an axis. He went against the accepted and widley known belife that the Earth is the center of the undiverse and everything revolves around it. He proposed his main idea between about 1508-151, aving the way for later thinkers during the scientific revolution.

    Primavera

    Primavera was painted by Sandro Botticelli commissioned by Lorenzo Medici. It was painted in the Renaissance art period, Renaissance meaning rebirth in French. Influenced by ancient Greek and Roman mythology depicting many ancient figures. These Gods and Goddesses being Flora, Cupid, Venus, and more.

    Magellan

    Ferdinand Magellan was a portuguese explorer who sailed under both Spain and Portugal. When travelling from Spain to South America, he found the Strait of Magellan. Magellan is kown as one of the greatest explorers of his time.

    Creation of Adam

    The Creation of Adam is part of the Sistine Chapel in Vatican City, Rome, painted by Michelangelo. The piece shows God (right), reaching his hand out to create the first human, Adam (left). It is ne of the most famous and influential pieces of Renaissance art.

    Luther's 95 Theses

    Martin Luther believed the most powerful institution of his time, the Church, was abusing its power by selling indulgences. He thought only you can guarantee your own salvation, nobody else can give it to therefore you can't buy it. He made 95 arguments against the Church and nailed them against a Church door and using the printing press his ideas spread wide and fast.
  • Romeo and Juliet

    Romeo and Juliet was published in 1597, and became one of the most famous and reference stories in all of english literature. It is about people who are desperately in love but can’t be together because of their family conflicts.
  • Galileo's Telescope

    Galileo made his own telescope that showed things nobody had ever seen before. He then had proof to back up his claim that the Earth revolves around the Sun not the long held belief that the Earth is the center of the universe and that everything revolves around it. His belief of heliocentrism caused awful backlash because it went against the teachings of the Church.Though later in time,his books filled with his ideas were brought up again, making him often called the father of modern astronomy.
