    The landline allowed you to talk without seeing that person in front of you. These were created in 1876. Landlines were popular in the 1900. Landlines are still being used in Canada but they are on a heavy decline. I think that people aren't using them anymore because having a smart phone is way easier.
  • Phone Books

    A phone book contains an alphabetical list of the names, addresses, and telephone numbers of the people and businesses in an area. Phone books first started being sold in 1878. 1910 was when they were popular. 2010 is when phone books became obsolete. I think they became obsolete because people started using smartphones.

    Public pay phones allowed you to make calls if you didn't have a smart phone. The first public pay phone was installed in 1889.They became popular in the 1920's. They were obsolete in the 2000's. I think they became obsolete because everyone had smartphones, even homeless people.

    The point in record stores was to sell records. They first started in 1894. They were popular in 1960's to the 1970's. 1990 was when they became obsolete. I think they became obsolete because people started using online music like Apple music or Spotify.
  • Calling 411

    The purpose in calling 411 was so you could find places near you. people started calling 411 in the late 1930's. It became popular by the early 1980's. They completely stopped the 411 number in 2022. I think people stopped calling the number because you could either search it up or search it up on google maps or your maps app.
  • VCR's

    VCR is an electromechanical device that records audio and video from television or other sources and can play back the recording after rewinding. The VCR came out in 1956. VCR's were popular in the late 1970's to the early 2000's. They became obsolete in July 2016. I think they became obsolete because newer technology came out replacing it.

    Fax machines scans printed texts and images from the sender's original paper and transmits the exact information to the recipient's machine. Fax machines first started being used in 1964. They became popular in the 1980's. They became obsolete in the 1990's. They became obsolete because people just started emailing each other.
  • Movie rental stores

    Movie rental stores allowed people to go and rent movies because back then they didn't have Netflix and other streaming services. The first ever movie rental store was opened in Germany in the summer of 1975. 1985 was when they started becoming really popular. They started being used less in 2000 but they became obsolete in 2015. I think that people stopped using them because you could buy dvd and dvd players or just go on netflix.

    CDs were read-only, but later technology allowed users to record on them, as well. In the early 1900's, compact discs became the industry standard for audio recordings. 1982 was when CD's first came out. They became popular in 1983-1984. They were obsolete in 2000-2007. I think they became obsolete because you could record and play the recordings online which was way easier.
